On the heels of their acquisition of KCVB, the owners of NEWSNet are also purchasing KSVN-CD. That will give them coverage from Preston to Provo. (That has a nice ring to it actually.)
The contract states that the callsign will change and the purchase price is a cool $2 million. Not a bad payday.
There's almost no mention of the affiliation agreements with Estrella TV or Real America's Voice and no mention of the Nuestra TV affiliation. Depending on what the affiliation contracts say those services might survive in some form for a while but at some point I imagine all the previous programming will disappear. I have no idea what kind of ratings those networks get so I can't say whether that's a big impact on Spanish speakers. It doesn't seem to be as big an impact as the KCVB acquisition since I think just about all of the programming on KSVN is network anyway.
Whether the upcoming NEWSNet is going to be a big deal I don't know either. They claim to be an unbiased source of news, but it seems like everyone claims that these days whether it's true or not. The most intriguing part to me is that it's a news wheel like (CNN) Headline News before the HLN name became meaningless. I miss that format, so we'll see if this is a worthy successor.
