This document will no doubt change over time. This top post will always be current with changes noted in followup posts below in a changelog style.
The default color scheme (theme) of the board changes with the seasons.
- Currently the themes are Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall, and Holiday/Christmas. If there is one that you particularly like (or don't like), you can change it to one of the other themes.
For the web version (You must have Javascript enabled to do this): - Start by clicking on Profile in the menu bar at the top of any page.
Then click the Edit Profile button on the right side followed by clicking on the Settings tab.
One of the options is Forum Theme.
After you select the new theme, click Save Account Settings at the bottom.
The next page you load will be in the new theme.
Note that if you manually change your theme to one that subsequently becomes the forum default, when the default theme is changed again your setting will be changed along with it. This is unavoidable, but you can always change it back yourself.
- Start by clicking on Profile in the menu bar at the top of any page.
It is suggested you fill in the Usual Listening Area field in your profile.
- For the web version (You must have Javascript enabled to do this.):
- Start by clicking on Profile in the menu bar at the top of any page.
Then click the Edit Profile button on the right side followed by clicking on the Personal tab.
This will help others get a sense of where you are and what stations you might be picking up.
- Start by clicking on Profile in the menu bar at the top of any page.
To view the Nielsen ratings
- There are many different websites that carry the Nielsen ratings. As a courtesy to those who might not know where to look, this is a link to the site that I personally use: ratings.radio-online.com/cgi-bin/rol.exe/arb101
To see all the topics on all the boards you can use this link: talkingutahradio.proboards.com/threads/recent
There is also an RSS feed that gets updated whenever there is a new post: talkingutahradio.proboards.com/rss/public
Confused about some of the terminology that gets used here?
- Here's a nice primer on some terms that are used in the radio biz: radioinsight.com/blogs/242695/what-is-sean-talking-about-a-glossary/
Old topics get locked.
- This generally happens to topics that are more than the current month + 1 calendar month old, with the exception of the In Memorium section. There are two reasons for this. One, the posts made that long ago are likely to no longer be relevant. Two, the reader is not likely to remember the specific points that were brought up that long ago. This isn't a problem. Simply start a new topic and say what you want to say. It's not necessary to explain why you're starting a new topic.
We discuss TV too
- The name of the board is Talking Utah Radio, but as Scott Fybush of NorthEast Radio Watch (www.fybush.com/) fame says, television is radio with pictures. Television is considered an equal partner here.
What the membership levels mean
- What they AREN'T is a ranking of how valuable anyone thinks the member and/or their posts are. That may be possible in the future. It is simply a ranking based on the number of posts that member had made. The rankings are:
- Newbie = 0 posts
Member = 10 posts
Bronze Level Member = 100 posts
Silver Level Member = 250 posts
Gold Level Member = 500 posts
Platinum Level Member = 1000 posts
Titanium Level Member = 1500 posts
Palladium Level Member = 2500 posts
(more someday?)
- Newbie = 0 posts
Guests are not allowed to post.
- Experiments to allow guest posting access did not go well. It was not used much and half of the posts that were made violated board rules anyway. It's really not that big a hurdle to register, and....
Registration is simple.
- The only information that is required is your email address, the name you want to go by (almost everyone goes by a handle, we don't need a real name), and your birthday (which we don't check other than to see if you're over 13).
There is a board called "In Memoriam"
- This is described as "a place to note and remember those in the broadcasting industry who have passed on." Those types of posts should be placed there.
