My new neighbors complained about me "listening to static" on my balcony, so I'll just stay inside from now on, and get drunk or something. They can sit on their balcony and listen to hopped-up cars and motorcycles racing by all day and night.

I couldn't see a trace of anything on 16 yesterday, but my neighbor got pissy (I had a small antenna sitting on the balcony railing, with it tied down for safety), so I gave up on any more of this "stupid old fool" hobby. I'll let you guys know if someone finds the Lehi problem. Maybe somebody could do a GoFund Me account, to pay the FCC to come visit 😏 . Let me guess, Ken: You live where there's an HOA?

No, just a new neighbor who likes to sleep on his patio all day, I think. I wonder why he singled out my radio's fairly quiet white noise, but doesn't have an issue with all the other, deafening noise there. Someone said they think he and his wife/girlfriend are having problems, but I hope not, since I like them both. I have to wonder if it's just the ever popular hatred of radio and the people who use it. We ARE all strange, weird people, ya know.

Last night, as I tossed and turned listening to my air conditioner that has a bad motor and bearings, and grinds away day and night...."annoying me", so to speak, I thought, I have thousands of dollars invested in my radio gear. Why can't my neighbor buy himself a pair of earplugs? I'm told that my AC "isn't that loud"!

For some people, certain sounds are just really grating. An ex-girlfriend of mine hated 1 kHz tone and would yell at me when I needed to calibrate audio levels. Then there's nails on a chalkboard..... Could that be the problem?
In any case, if you don't want to confront the neighbor there's always headphones, which might work better anyway to pick out little sounds in the background that might otherwise be inaudible.

If I was too loud, I'd understand. But, if someone just doesn't want to hear even a trace of something they don't like, I don't think it's fair to want it totally inaudible. I use headphones when I can, but there are some places where they don't work well. Wearing headphones that are plugged in to the radio while adjusting an antenna to check bearings just messes up the reading, unless there's a whole bunch of ferrites on the cord. And, linemen aren't gonna wear headphones on a sniffer that's at the top of a hot stick. They'd be making a path to ground the hard way 😳.

Don't get me wrong. I agree with you completely. I'm just trying to get inside the head of your neighbor.
The only alternatives I can think of are to do what he wants or just keep doing what you're doing, which would probably lead to some kind of confrontation. You said you like them, so that points me toward option 1.
