The personality of a DJ is only allowed in the mornings. Afternoons get a little bit, but still restricted. Middays are liner readers and nights the same.
Now, I am only generalizing but I really wish there was more freedom to do spontaneous things. With more Satellite formats (nothing but liners) and inexperienced DJ's being thrown in the spotlight (remember working your way from weekend overnights, to weekend nights, to weekend middays, to weekend mornings, to weekend afternoons, to overnights and so on) with no idea of how to run a "show" as opposed to running the board and occasionally cracking the mic.... No wonder its boring.
Is it wise for the PD's and corps to restrict Dj's for the sake of just providing the music people want... or can these Dj's sometimes make a fool of themselves (we all have to to learn!) and become a REAL personality?

Ratings go up when major things happen on a show. The more crazy a DJ is and the more freedom, the better the chance of higher ratings, plain and simple. I too would love to see some spice in the DJs in this town. Everyone seems like they are on prozac. There is no DJ in this town that I actually want to listen to.
I know there is a limit to what can be said and done on air per the FCC but a little more energy would certainly make me listen again. We need more shows like Bob and Tom but something thats local.
