My understanding is that Mr. Kifuri hired<redacted> and<redacted>to get the old Continental transmitter back on frequency, and do whatever else is necessary to get KDYL back on the air & functioning correctly. That would seem to account for the periodic transmitter testing we've been hearing, and the countdown on the Radio Unica web site showing approximately 35 days remaining to the official launch.

I know Lewis, but i dont know Ron. Lewis is a fellow public radio bretheren and I see Ron worked for KSL TV

It may be that the old Continental needs some parts. Parts for most anything are hard to come by nowadays. Parts for a 50+ year old transmitter may have to be custom manufactured, or sourced from a very big salvage dealer. There's also a new studio to build, and an STL to move, coordinate and relicense.
In a place like SLC id go with an IP based STL less troublesome then dealing with terrain issues.
Theyd be better off to buy newer used trasnsmitter. You can build a studio in a weekend and have programming ready to go in a week if you had to, even less

If anyone can get that old off frequency Continental operating properly again, I'm pretty sure it would be <redacted>. I also got the impression from Mr. Kifuri's posts here that broadcasting with the ancient transmitter would only be temporary until the new owner of KDYL can afford to replace it. Operating a 50+ year old vacuum tube transmitter isn't going to be cost effective in the long run. A newer solid state TX would probably use only about 1/3 the electricity of a tube unit.

Ron Davis is the chief engineer for KSL radio and TV. If anyone can get that old off frequency Continental operating properly again, I'm pretty sure it would be Ron. I should see if I can get a frequency reading on the other 1060 stations soon. I remember KDYL being around 110 Hz off frequency a while back. That would wreak havoc on several stations. But, now I'm curious if anyone else can create a sub-audible heterodyne.
