KMYU applied for and was granted a move from their current VHF channel 9 to UHF channel 21. This should help those in St George who watch them over the air since UHF works much better for digital TV than VHF does. The virtual channel number should still stay 12.

I would say sometime within the next 3 years or so. But seriously... In the FCC announcement of their decision they expedited the effective date to allow it to happen as soon as possible. docs.fcc.gov/public/attachments/DA-21-596A1.pdfI have no contacts with any knowledge of Sinclair's plans, but I'd think they'd like to get it done as soon as possible to reach more viewers sooner rather than later. I know I would. Sorry, that's the best I've got.

Any idea when this will take place? I suspect they will do, at least, the tower and antenna work ASAP, while they have good weather. I wonder if they have ever gotten any DX Reception Reports while on VHF?

Surprisingly to me, there are hundreds of stations on RF Ch 9, including 15 in Utah alone.

Surprisingly to me, there are hundreds of stations on RF Ch 9, including 15 in Utah alone. Unfortunately, channels on (actual) VHF don't come in on "HDTV antennas"... not even the super-amplified, 150-mile ones, with "Newly discovered NASA technology". That, and ATSC 3.0, are the likely reasons for the switch.

From the discussions (aka howls of pain) that I heard back in 2009 when many stations that had elected to go back to their original NTSC channels after the transition did so, my impression was that even the old VHF rooftop antennas that viewers had been watching TV on for decades were having problems. Is your understanding different?
I'm also confused about the reference to ATSC 3. The structure of the data is incompatible with the existing/old ATSC 1, but I haven't heard anything about needing any different transmission facilities.

The new application was filed. It actually specifies coverage well into Arizona that it didn't have before. I have to wonder how that will affect its carriage of CBS if there are translators for Vegas or Phoenix stations in that area.
