christopherjohn said in another thread Fun random fact as I look through the history at KSOP. Originally they were supposed be on the air at 1060AM but for some reason they were handed 1370 later on. Interesting. I'm curious where you saw that. The old FCC history cards show the original application was 1050 filed on 6/24/54 then changed to 1370 on 7/12/54. Things like the reasoning aren't in the files. It also shows that the original community of license was Salt Lake City, which was changed to South Salt Lake in 1978 after being left pending for 2 1/2 years. Looks like being slow has a long history there. licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/getimportletter_exh.cgi?import_letter_id=44647

I have a memory of reading somewhere, it might have been Wikipedia but I can't be certain, that the COL was changed to South Salt Lake so they could broadcast 24 hours. I'm not sure why that would be the case or even if what I'm saying is accurate. And now that I'm thinking about it that could have been 1060 which would have been KRSP at that point.

Are you talking about KSOP-AM or KRSP/KDYL? When KSOP-AM went on the air in 1955, it was initially a daytime only station. If KSOP had been assigned to 1060 in 1955, they probably would have had to sign off at sunset because 1060 is a clear channel frequency; and in those days the FCC gave preference to the 50 kW blowtorches over all other stations. 1370 is a regional AM frequency, so it would make more sense to put KSOP on that channel in order for the station to broadcast 24 hours.

OFH is correct. The 1976/1978 application did originally increase day power to 5kw, add 500w night service, install DA-N (I think that stands for Directional Antenna only at Night, but please correct me if I'm wrong) installing a new transmitter and changing the coordinates. The increase of day power was crossed out but was refiled in 1981 I think. I'm not sure if the COL change was strictly necessary but it would make perfect sense that the change in transmitter site would be if they needed to build out multiple towers for a directional array.

......install DA-N (I think that stands for Directional Antenna only at Night, but please correct me if I'm wrong...... You are correct! DA-N translates to Directional Array - Night. Some stations have directional arrays during the day and/or during critical hours.

I have some old documentation at my building different than the cards. It shows 1060 then 1370. I will have to look again when I have a chance. As for changing our city or license, when KSOP applied to go 24 hours, they were required to go directional at night and have a new COL South Salt Lake. They added the second antenna in 1979 I believe. All this is before my time. Lol. I do love that we have invested in our AM. New transmitter and audio processor. christopherjohn said in another thread Fun random fact as I look through the history at KSOP.
