... it sounds like over modulated garbage this morning despite a constant, strong signal. I can't understand half of whats being said because the audio is cranked up so loud it's distorted and crackling/spitty... and combine that with being at least 100hz off frequency. It sounds awful in Laramie, WY this morning just before 630am.
Draw your own conclusions from the time of day i'm posting and how well I'm hearing it .

I heard the same over modulated garbage signal at approximately 10:15 this morning, and I'm located in NE Ogden about a mile from KOGN's tower. As of 10:30 AM Mountain Time, the station is broadcasting with an open carrier (no audio).
KDYL has gone from bad to worse in the past year or so. When it was being LMA'ed to the Radio Desi group, it actually had a decent signal and good audio. Since then it's gone downhill significantly. For the past week or so the audio was so low I could barely hear it, and earlier this AM it sounded like an over modulated CB radio with a cheap linear hooked to it. I think it's time for the station's owner to put KDYL out of its misery unless he can sell it at a reasonable price. In 2020 a stand alone AM ain't worth what it was just 20 years ago.

KDYL has been on the market know for some time now and I understand the seller is quite motivated. Now's the time for a perspective owner to step up and get this situation addressed. I don't know who's leasing the signal but maybe they can get a deal done and move forward with some much needed repairs.

The owner of KDYL sold his Oregon AM for $200,00 just this past week, after buying it about a decade ago for $800,000

James Su (Mountain View Broadcast) paid $712,000 for KDYL less than five years ago, and as horrible as the station sounds now, he'll be lucky to get $100K for it. The transmitter obviously has some serious problems: besides the fact that it's off frequency by about 100 Hz, the audio is terrible and the timer that controls the day/night power is likely broken as well. For most of today, there was nothing but an open carrier on 1060. It would be great if someone would buy KDYL and make it sound as good as it did when the station had a "Real Oldies" format with Kahn's CAM-D, but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for that to happen. One thing is for sure: the effort to get people to listen to China Radio International by putting it on AM radio in the states has been a colossal (and expensive) failure. Ralph Carlson would be turning over in his grave if he could hear how bad KDYL sounds now.

KDYL has been "broadcasting" dead air theater (open carrier) for about two weeks now, and judging by the strength of the carrier, I'd say the transmitter is on its last legs. Kind of a sad ending for what was once a good oldies/standards station with live & local air talent.

I notice that 1060 is playing non-stop New Age music. The audio quality is good. I haven’t heard a station ID though.

Apparently someone finally realized KDYL had been on air with an open carrier for almost a month. Their signal is sounding better in Ogden than it's been in months. I guess the Radio Unica group wasn't living up to their end of the LMA and got booted off the station like the Radio Desi format. I suspect the new age music is just a placeholder until the station is sold. KDYL has been for sale for months now, and it appears that James Su is selling off at least some of his radio stations. It will be interesting to see if KDYL powers down tonight and the off frequency rumble is gone. If you're trying to sell a station, it's always a good idea to have the transmitter working properly. :-)

I hear some music under CKMX but not sure what or who.. sounds foreign language like

I'm hearing the same low rumbling off frequency sound on 1060 as well, so apparently KDYL's transmitter still needs some work. It sounded pretty good when I was listening to the station earlier today, but I never heard a legal ID during several hours of listening.

After broadcasting new age music for a few days, 1060 has now returned to airing dead air theater again. What a waste of a 10 KW signal! Since the station is for sale and the Radio Unica format is dead, why not just file a remain silent STA with the FCC and shut off the transmitter until a buyer can be found?

A few ideas spring to mind. A buyer might want to hear what the coverage sounds like. They could also be concerned with their license renewal and meeting the public interest part of it by being silent too much. The FCC has been cracking down on that. Not running a legal ID would seem to fly in the face of that idea though.
My guess would be that they intend to be on the air but are hampered by technical problems coupled with a lack of budget. I've seen that movie many times.

I think the case could be made that since KDYL is on with just an open carrier, technically the station is silent and isn't required to air a legal ID. KEGH-FM 107.1 was on the air with an open carrier for several months after the sale to AASAA Media fell through, and as far as I know they were never fined or cited by the FCC.

1060 is playing mellow rock from maybe the 70’s. Announcing “Classic Hits 109”. Too strange. And no ID as usual.

Based on a quick Google search, Classic Hits 109 appears to be a Canadian based internet station that's possibly affiliated with the CBC. I guess KDYL is airing a "format of the week" until the station is sold. ;-) I'm still hearing the low rumbling off frequency sound on 1060 at night, but at least KDYL appears to be powering down at night now. CKMX "Funny 1060" in Calgary is once again the dominant station on the frequency after dark.
