I caught a liner on 99.5 this evening emphasizing the fact that there are no DJ's on the station.
I'm not so sure this is a good idea. Is pointing out that fact that you got rid of all those pesky people at the radio station really the way to get someone to want to listen? I mean, yes it's obvious that the lights are on but nobody's home. We get it. But doesn't making a statement like that imply that people are bad? Maybe it's just me. The tangent to that question is just how much better is the automation at a radio station than your typical MP3 player?
I mean, it's ok to run an all automated format. Sometimes that works. Just try to pretend someone at the station actually has a pulse, even if they aren't actually on the air.

There will always be a group of listeners who hate DJs, but can't afford satellite. I'm not sure how large of an audience, though. And the liner does bring a refreshing degree of honesty to the station, unlike voicetracked stations.
But where I get off the train is company mentality that ALL LISTENERS don't mind automation. Personally, I like just knowing there's someone living-and-breathing who will tell me if Godzilla is attacking the city.
