New ratings show a few interesting things. We have 3 debuts this month. iHeart's KAAZ-HD2 and KZHT-HD2 make a small showing for the first time. Neither is on a translator as far as I know. Can someone with a digital radio confirm what's on these subchannels?
We also have the first (and for the most part, last) showing of The Mountain. All things considered I don't think that number is too bad. How many people even knew it existed?

106.7 KAAZ-HD2 calls itself “The Alt Project “ and plays alt rock, whatever that is. 97.1 KZHT-HD2 plays what sounds to me like a mix of rap and rock, mostly rap. They used to play new crude country.
I’m surprised that either of these show up in the ratings, but what do I know.
Digital radio appears to be dead in the US, while thriving in Europe.

So surprised at KSQN The Wave? I would think that they would do better as a frequent listener. My best guess is that there is no pushing of the station no billboards no TV ads it's like the rotten step child of Capital Broadcasting just sitting in a corner of a room with a blank stare.... Biggest complaint is the evening DJ she has no personality very boring. One other complaint is there is a big difference between The Wave and KXRK's classic alternative (HD2) is that KXRK has a much wider range of songs and not as tight of a rotation. Mike Summers would be great as the evening host.... Hope it lasts as it a great format to have in the valley..For us 80's children who grew up with KJQ

I'm also a frequent listener to KSQN The Wave. I know there were two ladies in later half of the day. One of them has left, the other is still there. I always listen to Unrest on the Seventh Day.
Mike Summers would be good. I remember him from before. I'd also love to see some billboards. I love this station and I hope it sticks around for a long time. I dropped X96 several years ago and I don't have digital radio so I'm not certain what the HD2 station sounds like.

The evening DJ on KSQN was Stacee; she's been gone for awhile now. Long time Salt Lake modern music DJ Andrea is still on from 2 PM-7 PM weekdays: she was also on air at the original KJQ and KXRK (X96) when X96 was in its infancy in the early 1990's. I have no idea who's on KSQN evenings now since Stacee left. The few times I've listened after Andrea's shift is over, it sounds like the station is jock-less and on autopilot. There has been some shuffling of the DJ's shifts to accommodate Stacee's departure.
I've been listening to KSQN several hours a day for the past two weeks, and one thing I've noticed is that they're playing many of the same songs 2-3 times per day. There doesn't seem to be as much variety in the station's playlist as there was in the beginning, so perhaps that accounts for the lackluster ratings of late. Musical variety is the thing I miss the most since Utah's Mountain vacated 107.9 for BYU Radio. I could listen to the Mountain for 6-8 hours a day and almost never hear the same song twice--their playlist truly ran the gamut of genres and styles. I really hope that Mike Summers and his crew are able to resurrect the format on another Salt Lake frequency in the near future.

I don't see much advertising for radio at all regardless of station. And it's not just here. It was even addressed recently on Scott Fybush's Top of the Tower podcast. Isn't KSQN being leased out? As long as the checks clear Capitol probably doesn't care what the ratings are. That's up to the programmer.

Capital Broadcasting (yes it is Capital not Capitol... ) owns and operates KSQN in house Since their FCC filings say Capitol I would say that is the correct spelling.

This reminds me of the story of how Oprah got her name. It was supposed to be Orpah (a Biblical name) but the birth certificate got screwed up and the rest is history.
