Did anyone else notice Clear Channel's new smooth jazz HD station? There's no xmas music, and the music is all smooth jazz, unlike the Breeze. www.utahsmoothjazz.com/main.html

I hadn't, but I also don't have an IBUZ radio. Was there something else that CC was running on KJMY-2 previously?
It's interesting that they'd bother putting an NAC ("smooth jazz") station on, since that's a dying breed all over the country. Then again, we have almost everything else, so why not.

I listen to IBUZ at work since two of our fleet vehicles (and only 2) have HD receivers. IBUZ works on FM but certainly is worthless on AM. As far as KJMY-2, yeah it is jazz. I have no idea what it was before because I'm relatively new to IBUZ and loathe it mostly. The other HD-2 signals around here (and HD-3 in the case of KUER) are all relatively different programming.
KRSP HD-2 has deep tracks but they play some popular songs too instead of "deep tracks". That's the only thing I could stand listening to. The other HD signals (besides KNRS on KTMY HD-2) are pretty lame.

The last one was basically "My 99-5" regurgitated. Clear Channel cut way back on their 'format lab' formats. There are only 7-8 now, mostly mainstream 'margin' formats (smooth jazz, country [in certain parts of the country, only]). It was supposed to be 'adult alternative' or some way of saying 'middle of the road rock' - at one point it was "Lisa" which I think is comparable to XM's now canceled 'named' stations (Lucy, Ethel, Fred, etc.)

I do think that the nod to "I Love Lucy" is a better take on it than most though. It was around long before the current batch. Of course we know of "Jack", but it goes back at least 10 years to the "Alice" craze and maybe further. Does a name like that really say anything at all about what a station actually does?
