105.1 has dropped the simulcast of 101.5 The Eagle and is now stunting as 105.1 The Gift with Christmas music. According to Radio Insight it's expected to move to Farnsworth in the next few days and they're speculating that Mix 107.9 will be moving to 105.1 possibly on Nov 1. radioinsight.com/blog/headlines/95024/kauu-salt-lake-city-prepping-a-gift/That makes sense to me. The KUDD/KUDE combo, even with it's really odd signal configuration, has done pretty well for a long time. Could a full Farnsworth signal help even more? We might find out. That of course would free up 107.9 and 103.9 central Utah for something else, which would start speculation on what might happen THERE. I have some ideas on that as well, but let's wait and see what happens first.

Why wouldn't mix 107.9 be directing or prepping listeners to the 105.1 signal if they are moving there like 106.7 and 105.9 announced for weeks before they moved? And only less than a week to go? I'm not buying that but who knows. And why are there Mix1079 commercials showing on tv as of today?

The commercials seems a bit weird, but I've wondered if they plan to make sure everything is running smoothly before promoting the new signal. While mix1051slc.com has been parked for over a year now, Broadway recently registered hot1051 which if i had to guess is generic, Cumulus registered the "hot monaker for 1019 when they registered alt 1019. But Broadway has also registered kiss1051.com. There has also been a facebook page up for the last couple weeks, kiss105, that has a countdown to launch for Midnight on nov. 1st. There is a short description on the fb page. "SALT LAKE CITY! IT'S COMING! STAY TUNED!"

There's no reason there can't be a simulcast on 107.9/103.9 & 105.1 for some transition time. This isn't like the recent frequency shifts where both stations can't be on the air at the same time. It doesn't seem too far fetched to try to pick up some listeners on the existing frequencies and then pop them over to the even stronger frequency. On the other hand, this could be a deliberate red herring, which is a favorite trick of marketing people. I wouldn't put a lot of stock in a Facebook page though. I could have made that page.
One thing I'm pretty sure of is that the people who are running 105.1 right now are chuckling at all the speculation.

NO doubt they enjoy the speculation. Who knows what they end up doing, but i wouldn't be surprised to see a rebranding when/if they put CHR on 1051. When/if they do launch it, they could then promote it on KUDD and KUDE. Who knows.

Well, Nov 1 came and went and there's still a Gift on 105.1 as of now. Also doesn't seem like the move to Farnsworth has happened yet either.

I saw an electronic billboard this morning for The Gift radio near downtown northbound on I-15. The ad showed a woman dressed as Santa with the words "Commercial Free" on the brim of her hat. So I assume that KAUU is now planning on keeping the format through December 25th -- with it still being an open question as to whether that was the original plan.

The whole thing is very weird and makes little sense. The playlist is very limited. I'm not sure how many songs are in the rotation, but it can't be that many. Also, the signal is dicey at best in Salt Lake and gets worse the further north you go. Why would they bother advertising the station? The only thing I can think of is that the automation system that's running the station now is just a placeholder to keep the signal on the air and they planned to launch a more extensive playlist with the move to Farnsworth. That move could have been planned to have happened already but didn't for some reason. If that's what happened then marketing dropped the ball since they should have cancelled the ad. Someone tuning in now in the Salt Lake area is going to get a bad signal and a very limited playlist and they're outta there. Even if they get the Farnsworth signal running and expand the playlist it's going to be VERY hard to get people to sample the station again.
The whole thing is just nuts.

According to KAUU's FCC filings, the new 105.1 Farnsworth facilities have been completed and they've filed for a License to Cover. They actually constructed it with 22kw instead of the original 15kw, so they might need to have that approved before they can actually complete the move. The Farnsworth facility is not on the air currently.

It sounds like the new Farnsworth transmitter of 105.1 is on the air. Getting a clear signal in Davis County tonight. Anyone else have reception reports, especially up toward Ogden and north?

I'm hearing KAUU on 105.1 loud and clear with a good clean stereo signal here at my location in Ogden, which is about 2 miles NE of the beautifully decrepit "studio" of KOGN-AM on Gibson Ave.

The U of U women's basketball team had a game at the same time as the Las Vegas bowl, so KALL was not available. I would not read too much into this. The last thing the SLC market needs is another sports station.
