Just a heads-up: KOGN 1490 has been off the air for at least the past two days. For those who live in the Northern Utah area and like to chase AM "graveyard" DX, this should provide a good opportunity to catch some stations on 1490 not heard previously. I haven't had the time to check the FCC database to see if the station has gone silent temporarily, so grab your DX radio of choice and check the band after sundown tonight! UPDATE: Looks like I spoke (posted) too soon--KOGN was back on the air Thursday morning when I got home from work, so that killed my DX plans for this week. However, KLO-AM 1430 is now off the air while 103.1 is still on. Maybe this has something to do with the call sign change for the FM side?

I'm not seeing how 1430 being off air would be related to a flip at 103.1. If anything they would want to be on 1430 when 103.1 goes to something else so that they don't lose the few listeners that they have, no?

My thought was that perhaps management had decided to shut off KLO-AM and just focus their energies on the FM station and whatever new format they decide to trot out (if they ever do). There have been hundreds of AM stations going silent in Canada for years now and migrating to FM. However, it's a moot point since KLO-AM was back on the air before I left for work this afternoon. Moreover, this isn't Canada, and I'm sure all 12 KLO-AM listeners would emit howls of protest if their favorite station shut down or changed format.

Badump bump.
I'm sure they make money. They get higher ratings than KKAT which has some arguably bigger names. Neither is setting the world on fire though. The next ratings report will come out next Thursday so we'll see if anything changes by then but I'm thinking not.
