I just heard a short promo suggesting that "FM 100 (point 3)" will be updating its music selections. They then played a couple of very short cuts of the kind of stuff I hear more often on 97.9.

Never mind. They seem to be playing the same old stuff.
Maybe my hearing aid batteries were low.

Well, both stations as well as "B" 98.7 all are reported to Arbitron as being 'adult contemporary' which more and more begins to overlap with CHR. In less conservative markets (and owners), I've heard "Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke played on an adult contemporary station [KKCW / Portland]. Adult contemporary doesn't seem to mean "soft" rock in major markets anymore.

My personal view (which may or may not actually be correct) is that these stations are blurring the lines between AC and Hot AC, plus there's a lot of overlap between Hot AC and CHR today. What do you think?

I think the women aren't so much into sleepy, older tunes anymore. My wife converted almost entirely from Country to CHR and Hot AC over the past year or so. I think that since CHR has moved mostly away from Rap and R&B, it's becoming more accessible to more people.

Excellent point, Timmy. A similar thing has happened in our house.
97.9 still plays one song that devolves into rap. I change the station every time.

To this point, I think Eminem is a genius to involve singers like Rihanna to blend out some of the harder core rap he is normally known for. It's a great move, again, to make this music more accessible to more people. I don't know if he's the first to do that sort of move, but it's a great one, for sure.
