How did everybody do with the ShakeOut today? Any broadcast participants, Ham Radio, etc? Dang, I forgot about that. I meant to listen in on the Farnsworth Peak Ham repeater just for fun.

Was the public supposed to know about this? I pay more attention to local news than most people and I hadn't even heard we were doing it again.

It wasn't very well advertised, that's for sure. I signed up for www.nixle.com not too long ago, and yesterday @9:17AM, I received an E-mail reminding me about it.

First I heard of it was here yesterday. Then I got my Questar bill today with a reminder that it WAS yesterday. I suppose people who have their bills sent earlier in the month would have appreciated that.

I had made a note of it in my EAS Calendar, back in January. Didn't hear anything about it, though, until last week. I thought maybe it was due to not listening to local stations for 2 or 3 days. I never heard anything on the ".62" repeater. I heard the Temple Square Ham Club on simplex, running check-in's. The State never asked broadcasters to do any EAS like in the past.

The NWS does their weekly tests between 10AM and noon on Wednesdays. Could that have had an effect on whether broadcast stations would have been asked to participate?

I doubt it. The State people just never responded to our questions about whether or not to participate via EAS.
One nice thing....KSL-TV actually rolled the satellite truck and a production truck to the big parking lot, and established satellite and microwave links to Farnsworth. We did the whole 12:00 newscast out there. We also took control of the studio Master Control facilities from the truck, which allowed us to simulate a "vacate the building" unmanned scenario. In the case of a loss of the studio, the remote van can provide the transport stream and static PSIP to the transmitter on Farnsworth. I guess we need to do a test with Comcast, on OTA reception via their head end. They say they can receive the SLC stations via OTA from multiple sites, in case of a fiber outage (or, loss of a studio).
