It seems pretty rare that I see any advertising for talk shows on the radio. It seems like the only way I discover a new show is stumbling on it by accident. Obviously the very high profile shows don't really need much advertising, since word of mouth does very well for them. What about some of the lesser known ones? Word of mouth works there too, but *somebody* has to find it first. How do you find out about shows?

Here, News Talk 710 KIRO is constantly promoting their other day parts with little drops of the hosts, even Phil Hendrie (10 pm to 1 am) so I guess that's one way to try to stir listener interest. They also promote the weekday programming in their live weekend shows (sadly, greatly reduced after January).

Very true. That would probably work best during the well established shows, assuming any given station has one or more as KIRO does.
That could be an interesting listener survey. How did you first discover The XYZ Show?

There was a time when I would give anything a listen. It has become discouraging of late along the Wasatch front. To tell the truth I would welcome back chit chat talk like went on when KSXX was new. People calling in with poetry, recipes, playing the harmonic while the dog sings...
Politicos spinning yarn that sounds as if it might be true, gets old fast. Talk was once a community rather than a militia.
Big O and Dukes is the latest terrestrial show a gave a listen to and likes. It is in DC.
