The Harvard Lampoon parody of USA Today a few decades ago had a footnote in their TV listings about PBS. It went something like "Local schedule may vary and will continue to do so until this network gets its act together." Just as true today as it was back in the 80's (and probably earlier.)
When you see a night of oldies programming on PBS, $1000 bet that it's a pledge drive. And then they ask you to call and pledge to support that type of programming. A lot of people do I'm sure, but when is the next time you see that type of programming? Next pledge drive! Of course I understand putting marquee programming on to attract viewers who will donate, but let's not pretend that this is a regular thing on PBS. It isn't and everyone knows it. The whole thing is a mess and I've been wondering for some time if PBS shouldn't just shut down. There isn't much that they show these days that isn't also available on commercial networks elsewhere.
