There's an article on Radio Insight ( radioinsight.com/blog/headlines/netgnomes/56275/cumulus-planning-all-news-in-la-atlanta-minneapolis-more/ ) about Cumulus possibly planning all news stations in a number of markets. There was no mention of the Salt Lake market, but one of domains found was AllNews1057.com. The experiment of having different talk programming on 570 than the traditional KNRS was a failure and it's back as a simulcast, but what about splitting them again? KSL is heavy on news and is consistently at the top of the ratings. KNRS ratings are at best the same as when they moved to FM. (They're actually down from 2007-2008.) What do you think? Might they try to out-news KSL?

Doesn't CC own KNRS not Cumulus? Would CC trade 105.7 for one of Cumulus' stations? I personally don't know if any station will ever beat KSL, but an all news station in SLC could potentially take away some of KSL's audience. I agree with the article in that people are tuning away from talk radio. Nobody around here mentions the only news talk station in town, yet it still manages to top the ratings (money talks).

How right you are. It is Clear Channel that owns KNRS. You passed the test.
Would you believe my April Fools gag was a week late?
Would you believe I confused those C companies?
There's still a question though. Should the 570/105.7 simulcast continue or should one try something else like all news? Apparently the 50kw upgrade of 570 expired unbuilt, but even the 5kw could theoretically get out further than the 105.7 facility (if you believe the math).

I thought something was off I think if they continued AND went all news they may see a slight improvement in the ratings, but I still think nobody can beat KSL. KSL has quite a brand recognition with them that helps. A 5 kw AM will always go farther than a 25kw FM, depending on how high up the FM is, and the pattern of the AM.
