Maybe because that's how K244DH started out? Re-broadcasting KUSU...

Sibilance.....could be the result over-processing the audio or over-driving the audio input stage.....or worse, it could be RF drift when the broadcast signal is being modulated at the higher audio frequencies.

Amanuensis: Sadly, unless some entity were to literally give UPR a reserved-band translator in the SLC metro, it's not likely that UPR will have a FM dial presence there. Of course, there is always listening online but once K244DH lost it's input signal in 2004 (co-channel flooding from KNKL and the subsequent required move of K204BO further south from Lake to West), even with heroic attempts to relocate and feed it directly from the main on 91.5, there wasn't enough signal left to be heard.
Commanderlumpy: A surprisingly number of USU students listen to UPR for NPR's morning edition. This was gathered from the students themselves on campus since there are really no "good" metrics to subscribe to for public radio listenership in rural areas.

Lest we forget....Utah Public Radio's "Access Utah" is heard statewide as well Monday through Thursday mornings at 9 and repeated those same evenings at 7 with KCPW's "Behind the Headlines" on Friday mornings and evenings at those same times on UPR. Online at upr.org

......One case was my dentist where they had one channel running in the back office and the other one out in the waiting room. Drove me nuts, so I offered to fix it for them. I showed the receptionist the stereo/mono button and told her to make sure it was in mono and everything would be fine. She was very grateful, though I did still have to pay for my procedure. Another time I was visiting a friend of mine and it was very obvious immediately that the speakers were wired out of phase. Flipped the wires and it was so much better...... Same here, restaurants and retail establishments are the primary offenders - it's especially noticeable with discrete stereo (read "almost anything from the late 60's") recordings. Sorry you didn't get that free root canal but at least you weren't wanting one after being forced to listen to only one channel! Restaurants will often spiff me a meal for my efforts!

Minor nit pick: Friend, I think you meant to say 103.3 for KLGN's first translator frequency. Yes, I meant 103.3

KLGN 1390 went 24/7 sports yesterday, mostly Fox Sports Radio, also translated at 106.9 while the "Lite FM" format remains over on 100.3 and 100.9 translators. An interesting development for sure - I'm guessing the traditional holiday flip will take place around November 1st on the two FM signals.

I liked it....but yeah, perhaps a little too adventurous given ownership and new format.
But I liked it....alot!

And Brianna is a "graduate" of UPR.....she interned here under the tutelage of Kerry Bringhurst and was one of our star news reporters.

I wasn't wondering about the math so much as I just recall the ruckus that was called up by CV 103.5 listeners and 103.5 station ownership (yes I know who it was at that time) when 103.9 signed on nearly 90 miles away. K280GX is much closer than that but most radios now are pretty good at second-adjacent rejection unless you are in the near-field so maybe it's not as much as an issue.
