KLGN 1390 went 24/7 sports yesterday, mostly Fox Sports Radio, also translated at 106.9 while the "Lite FM" format remains over on 100.3 and 100.9 translators. An interesting development for sure - I'm guessing the traditional holiday flip will take place around November 1st on the two FM signals.

Thanks for the update, but I can't say I'm happy about the change. The 1390 signal was the only one I could pick up in Ogden, and I was a die hard KLGN fan for years. I haven't listened much lately because they dropped most of the older standards music (Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, etc.) from their playlist, and IMHO KLGN started sounding like a carbon copy of KACH shortly after the Lite FM format flip. Sadly, music formats on AM are all but dead in the U.S. now, so I can't say I'm surprised by the move to sports talk. Guess I'll have to add a low power AM transmitter to my Christmas wish list so I'll have something other than talk, talk, talk to listen to on my vintage AM tube radios. Minor nit pick: Friend, I think you meant to say 103.3 for KLGN's first translator frequency. 100.3 is home to KSFI, and I'm sure they wouldn't tolerate a Logan translator on their frequency!

I wonder if they will try to get back USU sports on a Logan local radio? I know 1280 The Zone has the rights as of now and probably hits a much larger audience...

FWIW, KLGN's TuneIn stream is now carrying the 1390/106.9 sports format as well.

According to Radioinsight the station will also pick up the Jazz.

I'd be interested to know if there's any way to stream the Lite FM format that's still being broadcast on the translator stations. The old Lite FM page and TuneIn are both carrying the Fox Sports feed, and I'd like to be able to listen to the old KLGN format this Xmas. They play a much wider variety of holiday tunes than most of the Salt Lake stations do.

According to Radioinsight the station will also pick up the Jazz. I'd be willing to bet the Larry H. Miller Group has an LMA with Cache Valley Media Group for KLGN, especially since KZNS (The Zone) is the new flagship station for USU football & basketball games.

David, does the winkie mean you aren't being serious about the LMA?

David, does the winkie mean you aren't being serious about the LMA? Nope, I'm dead serious about the LMA. The winkie just means I think there's more to this format flip than we know about at present.

Other than live sports I'm not seeing any connection between The Zone and The Fan. I doubt there's an LMA.

Both stations are affiliated with Fox Sports, and both carry the Utah Jazz games. Maybe there's no connection, but it just seems coincidental to me. And since KZNS is the new flagship station for the Aggies, I'd imagine their games might be broadcast on KLGN as well. 1280's signal in Ogden at night is not very strong, so I have to imagine it's weak to non-existent in Logan post sunset.

KBLU LP and KACH are the stations that carry USU athletics in logan/prestonas of last year if i'm not mistaken. There was a post on this board about this time last year about the new contract with LHM etc. Though KACH was just sold, so not sure what's being aired on it these days.

Well, KACH was sold to Preston Broadcasting, which shows Val Cook as the contact. Val Cook at least used to LMA KADQ and KNYN for Frandsen Media, not sure about now. KACH had broadcast rights to broadcast USU games on their FM translator to Cache Valley. I believe KACH had a 3 year contract with Lehrfield, with the option to renew for 2 years if I read the sale documents on the database correctly. Has it been 2 years or 3 that Lehrfield opted to switch providers?

Yes Val is still LMAing KNYN and KADQ here in Evanston. Val also has several other stations too. Sounds like the am-over-fm-translator method is working out good for most of them, including KLGN. Didn't know until now that KACH had one too. Sure wish we would have had the money to get one at KEVA before everything went defunct. Still too bad KLGN had to go to sports.
