There was a little discussion of the troubles at The End in the Nuke'Em thread, but this is a good general topic. Who do you think the first flip of the year will be?
I think it's pretty clear that Jack's days are numbered. The ratings are eroding, Simmons is trying to sell it anyway, and they have Rewind 100.7 which is almost the same station anyway. (Both stations played Stevie Nicks' "Edge Of Seventeen" within 10 minutes of each other a little while ago.) The only question with Jack is, when will there be a sale and to whom?
What about The End? That's a tough call. They've been up and down a lot over the last 6 months, ranging from pretty good to pretty bad. If Cumulus was going to blow up an FM, that would probably be it. Not sure they should.
Cumulus' AMs need work though. K-Fan isn't doing gangbusters, but they should get help now that the NBA is back in session. Could K-Fan end up on FM to complete with The Zone? FM doesn't seem to be helping Zone, but it's on a Humpy rimshot so who knows.
In serious need of work -- Utah's Big Talker 860. Or should that be "Utah's Tiny Talker"? It's going absolutely nowhere. They need to either put some promotion into it and make a go of it or chuck the format. I say pull the plug and flip it back to classic country. Just take the format that was successful on 107.5 before it was spun off and put it on 860. The KKAT calls are already there even. Classic Country can definitely work on AM. KSOP(AM) has never caught on for some reason, but AM700 did before it was blown up to make room for KALL when 910 was sold to Disney.
