Any idea what KSL will be airing on the 5.2 on January 1 2012? once Universal Sports goes to Directv exclusively?

All I'm hearing is some rumblings about "locally produced" programming. I'd guess some sort of news thingy. (If we also could cut in some BBC, DW, Canadian, etc from the major international news channels, I'd be happy with it.)

I'd be happy if they'd just constantly re-run the latest ch. 5 newscast. There is (or was, at least) a station in Phoenix that did that on a cable channel. I watched it quite often.

Last I heard Universal Sports was available to any carrier (cable or satellite) who wanted it and they were trying to drum up interest in it. I suspect a few more carriers will sign on closer to the cutover date. I can virtually guarantee that Comcast will end up carrying it because they *own* Universal now, though why they need two national sports networks (NBC Sports Network nee Versus being the other one) I don't get.
As for 5.2....I know the NBC O&O's around the country run a news/lifestyle channel called nonstop tailored for each market including a live evening newscast later than the regular 'cast on the main channel. Here, KSL could do news at 7. I know there's a KSL produced show that runs on KCSG now at 7 and 9. Ken, are those done live?
Another possibility is giving KCSG that off air clearance in Salt Lake that we've been talking about for a long time now. The cost would be minimal and the programming is actually interesting, unlike most of the stuff on This for example.

I just got the news over the weekend.......
"Live Well" network will be broadcast on 5-2, in letterbox SDTV, beginning at 5:00 AM on January 1, 2012. A one-hour local avail slot will be used for a daily (one-week delay) re-run of KSL's locally produced "Studio 5".
The network originates in 720p HDTV, but KSL will only have bandwidth for 480i SDTV. The network also will not allow widescreen SD, so it will be letterboxed.

Interesting that KSL goes from male oriented programming to female oriented. Even more interesting that Live Well is owned by Disney/ABC. That makes the trifecta of the original Big 3 networks that have been broadcast on KSL over the years. (Ok it's a stretch, but it's amusing.)

Trip, over at RabbitEars.info has pointed out that many of the Live Well stations are going ahead with wide-screen SD, rather than letterbox SD, so we might rethink it.
It would jive with the 5-3 "KSL Weather", KUTV "2.2", and KUED "PBS World", which are wide-screen SDTV.

You're bringing back memories of KUTR "Radio for Women".
