I've been hearing KHWG-AM 750, from Fallon, Nevada very well for the last couple of nights (Midvale, UT, 350 miles).
Anybody else hearing them? I usually get KOAL from Price at dark.

Yuh, I heard them too. Sounds like someone "forgot" to turn down the power at sunset.
Radio Locator shows 10kw daytime and 250w at night.

How long have you been getting KOAL at night? More than a few years?

I've been getting KOAL (750) right around sunset for the last couple of years, also get it just before sunrise (driving to work). They seem to come in pretty well on Friday evenings, too. At least, up until now. They were audible last night (Friday) for a while, before the Gray Line moved west of Salt Lake. Thought this was interesting: transition.fcc.gov/Daily_Releases/Daily_Business/2011/db1107/DOC-310869A1.pdf

I wonder if they think that means they can run 24/7 at 6 KW? They were not as strong last night at SLC, and I heard a couple of other stations fighting them this morning before dawn.

The STA did specifically say the nighttime operation would be at 250 watts which is their normally licensed power. With everything else that's going on I wonder if there was a failure in the transfer control switching to night power or something of that sort. They should be monitoring those types of things though.

I just posted something over on RadioInfo.com..... Aerial photos show some sort of solid ring around their tower...could it be just a fence, or is it some sort of super-structure, like a support ring for wires to make a fatter tower, or something? I'm wondering if they do something to add more skywave to their radiated signal.
They promote themselves as covering several western states, sort of like KSL's old Clear Channel days. They mention Nevada, California, Western Utah, etc.

The only time I've heard them here (Sheridan, WY) was in September, and I could have sworn they were on day power because it was late at night, and booming in. I have a hard time believing 250 watts could sound that good that far away. Another note, KOAL doesn't come in very good up here. I have a station from Canada and one in Montana that kills the chances of KOAL, although I've logged it. Edit: The tower is top loaded according to the STA app posted above. Like Scott said over on the RI board, I bet that plus the shorter tower makes skywave better. I'm no radio engineer though.

KOAL was blasting in to SLC last night at 5:19 PM, when I pulled out of the parking garage. It stayed loud and clear most of the way home (30+ minute trip). Sounded like a local most of the time.
