I have noticed that KSL may be bringing back the "News Specialists" slogan after not using it for a few years. Anyone know more specifics, perhaps a new set, graphics, music, etc?

Nothing obvious at the top of the 10PM news tonight, though I do know of a place where that slogan is being used. web.ksl.com/TV/frames.htmThere's some ancient stuff lurking in there. It doesn't answer your question but it's amusing.

See, this is why this board is so great! We've got the inside scoop about WHEN a change is going to happen! I came across web.ksl.com/TV/content/50th/p-sub10.htm which shows a great history of the station (most likely only up to the 80s or 90s judging from the site). I also posted an update at newsutah.org

Am I missing some significance to having the change on the 31st instead of the 1st?

Heheh, Levoix. Yep! Of course you know there will be no grand countdown or other bravado to precurse that, or fade out/in or dissolve in the flow of that, right?

Not sure how much is changing today....we do have completely new newsroom automation systems going on line at 5:00 PM. The idea was to have it up and running for the beginning of the broadcast day on Sept 1.
I hear the "new look" starts Monday. Waiting for an OK to show you guys the logos.

The new system is a replacement for the old system, which was going to cost a fortune to upgrade. There will still be cameramen in the studio, etc...not going to robotics.
The new system lets us upgrade our nearly-dead field cameras to HD, let's radio, TV and newspapers, as well as .com ingest and utilize all the same material, and will soon allow for full HD live capability. We're still a few weeks away from doing live HD from the field, from satellite and from the helicopter.
The new "look", as you may have seen on the website home page today, de-emphasizes the "Channel 5", and ties the whole "Deseret Media" group together. Radio, TV, and the newspaper holdings all are tied together, with the two music radio stations forming their own "sub-group", shall we say.

Really? This Ignite! is the new automation system, now? Didn't they just get one back in 2008 right after I got laid off from being a studio camera operator there (for budget cut reasons)? (I suppose I could reapply now, and could have a while back, but I want to stay eligible for their game shows--which I unfortunately hadn't thought of in time for while Deal or No Deal was on.)
So the Chyron Camio has already become outdated by today's TV broadcasting standards, even though that was just about 3 1/2 years ago? What's gonna replace Ignite! 3-4 years from now, then?
Oh, shoot, I missed the September 1 thing (but that's no biggie, I guess). At least I'll have to set my recorder to catch the Monday (Labor Day) thing.
But Ken, can you beg and plead with them not to lose that long-time circle-5 logo? That's been with us for my whole life, and I don't ever want to see it gone!
