DTV Utah Outage Info Saturday Morning, July 16, 2011 1:00 AM until 2:00 AM MDT
Salt Lake City area Digital TV stations from the DTV Utah transmission facility will be unavailable via over-the-air from 1:00 AM, due to maintenance of the common portions of the transmission facility. This will affect over-the-air transmissions of stations KUTV, KTVX, KSL, KUED, KUEN, KBYU, KJZZ, and KUCW, and their sub-channels, as well as most translator stations in outlying areas.
This will also affect HDTV versions of these channels via DirecTV and DISH Network, but not Comcast feeds via the Salt Lake City head-end.
Standard-definition programming will remain available on Comcast, DirecTV and DISH Network through their Standard-Definition channels. Please tune to those, rather than HDTV channels.
This is to make tests on the RF Combiner. Other stations should not be affected. We hope to keep the outage duration to a minimum.

I didn't see any drops last night at all. I presume that means that what the release really meant was 1-2AM Sunday 7/17, right? That means it will wipe out "Numb3rs" and "The Unit" again dangit.

The planned outage was canceled at the last minute (or, "postponed"). A couple of stations were not OK with the timing of the outage.
It was supposed to test the new control system software, that is meant to prevent another catastrophic failure like what happened nearly two years ago, when the transmitters backfed the combiner. They hope to try again in about three weeks.
Watch for details.

Thanks Ken.
I would think that the best time would be early Monday morning. Last I heard that was the least significantly viewed time of the week. Problem would be if something went wrong and the stations were still off by the time the morning news shows were ready to roll. That would be really not good.

I'm thinking that the DTV Utah stations should all pay monthly in to a fund that would allow DTV Utah to buy the required air time from it's own member stations when there is a need to do any maintenance. Silly....but probably easier than asking someone to give up some valuable overnight infomercial time slot.
