The new KULX on RF 14 is up and running. They're still sending PSIP as 10.x, but they should be changing that.

Is the signal any better now that it is out of VHF?

For me in central Davis County, much. I couldnt' get a peep out of them on RF 10 with an indoor amplified flat panel antenna. I'm getting about a 50% reading on the signal strength meter. (I know it's not scientific.) I get around 70 on the full power stations.
The odd thing is that the KULX weather feed that was on 10.3 in the past has been replaced by an SD copy of the regular programming from the main channel.

I recall the station never getting above 60% at my Salt Lake house on 10. I was roughly 17 miles due east of Farnsworth. Full powers would always be in the 90s. This was probably a good move for them, but I hope they informed their viewers of the move ahead of time. Makes you wonder how many people (other than us ) re-scan their boxes and TVs.

I always thought that the stations should all co-operate by running a few "snipes' when things change, saying something like "Over the Air Lineups have changed. Re-scan your receiver to add new channels", or "There are now twenty-eight channels of free, over the air programming available. Please re-scan at your convenience".
Naaaaah! That might make sense. And, it would confuse people. And, it would make us look like we are promoting free TV.

I can think of several things that make that idea unfeasible. Depending on where you are, what you can get can change drastically. Say KSL ran a notice like that. They should be receivable in Logan, yet there's little chance that KULX can be received there. One the flip side, the Loganite should be able to get KCVB, but a Salt Laker has no chance. And that doesn't even address those who have cable (somewhere around 80% of the audience last I checked), who wouldn't be affected by that at all. Not to mention the financial incentive for TV stations to push viewers toward cable because of retransmission consent fees. And then there's the idea of promoting another station, which the suits aren't going to like at all. It was hard enough to get stations to run the DTV transition PSA's. This would just be nuts.
Public good be damned, I don't see that ever happening.
