Just give us some variety in this market. We don't need any more sports-talk, right-wing-talk, country or rock stations. How 'bout some R&B, some (non-Spanish) foreign-language, maybe bring back the BBC World-Service? I'll second that opinion. With four sports-talk and six Spanish language stations on the AM band, the LAST thing we need is more of the same. I'd be happy if someone would just put Scott Shannon's True Oldies or an adult standards format on one of Citadel's AM frequencies. But it probably won't happen (sigh).

Um, sorry Pete. Citadel still owns KFNZ. They may have an LMA to the Miller group Gee that's odd the EEO Report for KFNZ has nothing to do with Citadel but with the Larry Miller Group and it's quoted as being owned by the Larry Miller group www.lhm.com/and now the address given for KFNZ is as follows Call Us SLC: 483.1320 Provo: 470.1320 Ogden: 670.1320 Text UsText "KFAN" + a message to 64636 [glow=red,2,300]Address 301 West South Temple Salt Lake City, Utah 84101[/glow] Now when a company files an EEO that usually means they are the owner?

Ok after posting I thought what the hey lets call the SLC # took awhile on hold but I asked them if they are owned by LHM or Citadel and the answer I got was....
They lease the studios on Bear Cat and are owned by The LHM Group along with KJQS 1230?
So take it for what it's worth...
Basically if it's not owned by the LHM Group now and it's just an LMA I would probably say it will be soon if Cumulus buys and sells

I think it was about 2 years worth of airtime on 860. Before that it was on KXOL 1660. Never made much of an impression on either dial position. It didn't help at all in the later years that they moved away from their original mission statement to become a generic 60's/70's "oldies" station rather than the 50's/early-60's that they started out as. I guess the demos were too old and Citadel told them to move forward just like all the other oldies stations did. By the time they got cut loose from 860, there wasn't much of a difference between them and KODJ. With the crappy state of AM radios today and the availability of KODJ anywhere you could hear KKAT/860, they didn't stand a chance. (Plus KODJ being local most of the time helps too.)

I would say it has to be an LMA, though I wouldn't expect the phone answerer to understand the nuances of all the technical stuff like that. The licensee of KFNZ is Radio License Holding CBC, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of CItadel. You can read the scary long report at licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/prefill_and_display.pl?Application_id=1381455&Service=AM&Form_id=322&Facility_id=62039I don't think it matters a lot. If there's a good amount of cash flow already set up and no better alternatives for the station, why mess with it? Maybe Cumulus would just hold on to it, assuming this deal actually goes through.

Yep, I know I'm a fossil from the 1970's: I still listen to music on AM radio, and get my hair cut at a good old fashioned barber shop instead of a salon or Great Clips. Still, I can't understand how a market the size of Salt Lake/Ogden/Provo can support four sports stations and six Spanish language stations, but there's no support for another oldies station on AM or adult standards? Guess us old fossils don't have the buying power to attract advertisers that we used to. Maybe that's why the commercials on AM are mostly for hair loss cures and supplements for prostate problems.

It's really that advertisers think the older you are the less likely you'll be swayed by advertisers. It's not that older people don't have buying power. That's a common misconception.

Ask C. Crane Company about advertising on AM music stations. BTW, Danny Kramer has a bad sinus infection. And, KDYL's studio air conditioner is noisy. (They have a great signal, if the listener has a decent antenna )

Do you happen to know if KDYL is still running the CAM-D Kahn digital AM system? I have pretty much no hope anymore that CAM-D will succeed, though that's no fault of the technology.
