This is going to be such a shake up. My sister works in the cumulus corp office in Atlanta and SLC is one they are going to break up and sell piece by piece.

God help the stations on Bearcat Drive, and those who work within.

Depends who buys the pieces. If the price goes low enough, it could attract new capital. Maybe an owner who'd reunite Fisher to the Bee's morning show.
I'd listen.

I think there's one thing that's a pretty good bet. There won't be much (or anything) int he way of changes at K-Bull.
I suspect they won't get much for KJQS as a stand alone. They might just package that with KFNZ. Otherwise, I'll start the bidding at a buck and a half.
The next ratings come out next week. It will be interesting to see whether The End is getting any traction back. They flipped about halfway through the Holiday book and the January numbers started about 2 weeks later. Will there be another end for The End? We'll see.

I don't think KFNZ is theirs to sell. Didn't Citadel unload 1320 to the Larry H. Miller Companies a couple years back?

Just give us some variety in this market. We don't need any more sports-talk, right-wing-talk, country or rock stations. How 'bout some R&B, some (non-Spanish) foreign-language, maybe bring back the BBC World-Service?

BBC World-Service would be refreshing in Salt Lake. Didn't KCPW air some of that? The problem is, what other formats would actually be marketable in Salt Lake. There are enough religious stations down there, and like you said, enough country, rock, and talk stations.
What about a progressive talk station? KKAT or KJQS could fit. Can you imagine the response they would get.

BBC World Service is on KCPW 88.3 from 10pm until 4am. It's also on KUER 90.1 from midnight until 5am.
Progressive talk would fit the KJQS coverage area nicely, namely, all of the low income, densely populated areas of Salt Lake where most of the people who love government handouts live. However, they're not really the ones who would listen to talk radio either. They prefer rap. How about a rap talk station?
What do you suppose KJQS would actually sell for?

Hopefully they do break it up and sell it "piece-by-piece". If they do, then maybe (and I mean maybe) there could be some new formats or a break from the status quo. Some of the formats suggested here sound interesting, but they may not be viable, and you'll never see them happen with a big corporation running things from Atlanta. I would be more worried for Salt Lake Radio if things were "phoned in" from their corporate headquarters.

I could see them moving this station up there with the KJZZ 14 studios. And whos to say anything happens in that valley for some time it has to be approved and then find buyers could take well over a year. Hopefully sooner ;D B98.7 has been stuck inthe same rut for years.....KBER is it Talk or Classic Rock? Last time I listened it was mostly talk...94.9 that's Citadel correct?

Um, sorry Pete. Citadel still owns KFNZ. They may have an LMA to the Miller group, I don't know. The Millers don't even directly run KJZZ anymore though. They farmed out their master control first to KUTV and now to KSL.
And yes, Citadel has 94.9 Z Rock.
I wonder if the U might buy one of the AM's to expand the programming that's on 90.1 right now. They could put jazz fulltime on 90.1 and move the NPR stuff over to AM. I'd suggest KCPW look at increasing their footprint, especially with the imminent demise of 105.3, but I don't think they're in good enough financial shape at the moment to entertain that.

You are correct, 94.9 is Citadel. I agree about B98.7 but as far as KBER, depending on the time of day, it is rock.
I'm going to hold back on commenting on KJQS, as its not my business to marginalize anyone within a listening area of a radio station, regardless of format.
EDIT Note, both CA and I were typing at the same time apparently.

KJZZ still has people to "run" things, but the Master Control is done from KSL. As for radio, though, KSL has plenty of control rooms available...just pull down the AM820 and the STAR102.7 logos, and fire them up. ;D
