Noticed something interesting on KSL 5.1 at 4AM just after "sign off". Before switching to the usual color bars under the ID, there were a few seconds of a radar image labeled Vortex. Then the usual bars appeared. I went over to 5.3 to see what might be going on over there and a similar Vortex image was in rotation, though that was from about 5 hours earlier. Watching for a while it seemed like there was some adjusting going on. There was a lot of black screen and what seemed to be manual advancing through the still stores of the various screens that the channel usually shows. There also seems to be a subtle change in the formatting that the forecast screens have. Checking the weather.ksl.com website I didn't notice any mention of a new radar system, but now I see there's a banner near the top.
Is this Vortex thing new, or have I just not seen it before?

Hey...only engineers (and, a few weather folks) are supposed to be up that late.
Check out the new weather system, starting at 6:00 PM tonight.

Hey...only engineers (and, a few weather folks) are supposed to be up that late. Hey, if you broadcast it it's fair game. ;D I missed the 6. I'll see if I can catch the 10.
