Could someone explain to me why KUTV is preempting ThisTV from 2.2 to simulcast the same preseason football game that's on 2.1? I'm not getting it. The color looks richer on 2.2 (is that in SD?) but it's not that big a deal.

I did notice that 2.2 is carrying Denver channel 4's coverage of Broncos games. That would perhaps explain why 2.2 carried the game. And I assume that 2.1 carried CBS coverage of a Broncos game. Were the 2 versions identical?
As far as I know, 2.2 is always in SD, though Broncos and RSL games are wide screen. Also the local (St. George/Cedar City) KUTV news/weather is also wide screen SD. I wonder whether it's in HD in Southern Utah. Could be.
I set my DVR to record a sci-fi movie on 2.2 last week, the first time I've ever recorded something from 2.2 . I ended up recording 2 hours of a Broncos game. Oh, well.

Both versions are identical. KCNC/4/Denver is a CBS owned station still, and from the graphics package it looks like CBS Sports might be producing the game for KCNC. (They also own WWJ Detroit, so they might be doing two feeds, one local for each market.)
The 2.2 stream is also in widescreen and I don't have an HD set so it looks the same to me. Your point about KUSG is a good one though. It's possible the master control setup for KUTV 2.2 and KUSG are always the same and they wanted to feed the game to St George too. I don't think that's the case though. The commercials on 2.1 and 2.2 are different. Just now there were different car dealer commercials, both for the Salt Lake area. Very weird.
