We haven't had a good ratings discussion for a while and I think it's about time we discussed the move of KNRS to FM since that's what's on my mind at the moment. It's now been a little over a year since the move.
I said when the rumors surfaced (again) that there was no way that was going to happen unless they were intentionally trying to self destruct. I'm not sure it's intentional self destruction, but that's exactly what happened. KNRS (no matter where it is) is still doing about the same, wandering around a 3 in the ratings. If anything, that's down slightly from the old AM days. It's not a significant difference and political talk radio tends to be cyclical anyway. Ok, no loss there. The big problem is what's going on at 570. It's barely showing at all with a 0.3. That's almost nothing! That's "might as well turn the transmitter off and save money" kind of ratings.
Now it certainly doesn't help that the current schedule is mostly 2nd or 3rd tier talk shows. The top shelf shows that Clear Channel has are all on KNRS. You could make a case that this will be changing with the move of Laura Schlessinger back to AM. Personally I've never been able to stand her, but she does get decent ratings. Will that be enough to save 570? By itself I don't think so. If CC uses this opportunity to rejuvenate their 570 schedule and get some high quality programming surrounding the Schlessinger show, then they might have a shot. Competing against themselves (570 vs. 105.7) is going to make that very very difficult though.
