Clear Channel is running their country oldies thing on 105.7HD2 and also on 99.5HD2. Then they are allowed to translate it on 99.1 in Utah County. The quality of the audio on 105.7HD2 is very good. The quality of the audio on 99.5HD2 is poor and the modulation is low too. I assume that 99.1 is fed by 105.7HD2.
I'm wondering what's going on with 99.5HD2. Why wouldn't Clear Channel want to put on something different? They used to have an oldies package (50's and 60's) that was very good. I wish they'd carry that instead of the poor quality duplication they have on there now.
Does anyone here have a guess as to how these decisions are made?

Clear Channel is over doing the country on the HD-2's 97.1 KZHT hd-2 has Rockin' Country? plus the 2 mentioned in Terry's thread....
I'm not sure who is charge but to me this is how it should be done because they are trying to push HD radio but they are failing and it was suppose to destroy Satellite Radio is what was mentioned in the NAB convention
Just The Clear Channel one's below This would be my plan for using the 2's (But who Am I?)
94.1 HD-1 Super Hits 70's 80's ---- 94.1 HD-2 Oldies 50's 60's 97.1 HD-1 Top 40 ------- 97.1 HD-2 EnErGy Hits (Dance) 99.5 HD-1 Modern AC -------99.5 HD-2 Classic Alternative 105.7 HD-1 Talk ------- 105.7 HD-2 Talk (Freedom Radio) from 570 AM
106.5 HD-1 Soft AC ------ 106.5 HD-2 Smooth Jazz 570 AM Classic Country
They need to compliment the main signal not just throw crap on the 2's and walk away. As I have seen when in SLC area at Target Stores the people holding the sign?? we should change it too....
Shame On Clear Channel For Destroying What Could Be a Good Idea!!!!!
I've said it before the best HD-2 is KOSY's!!!! (Radio-Radio) some of the better classic alternative I've heard and a great big selection of it not just the same 20 to 30 songs but a great library

I think the reason for running the 99.1 translator off 99.5's IBOC signal is due to history. 99.1 has always translated 99.5, so they would theoretically get less flack for running the .2 programming than they would for translating an AM or a different IBOC signal. I don't think that matters as much as it did a few years ago though.
I still think IBOC is a failed technology though. It's still going to be a tough sell to get it to the point where anyone cares, and with internet streaming only a few years off, why bother? The net offers a bigger selection for sure, plus it can sound as good or as crappy as you want.
