It looks like KTVX has finally completed their HD studio conversion. Looks pretty good, but they need to do something about the lip-sync! It's even worse on the analog channel on Comcast.

I'm looking at the morning news now and the sync looks fine on the off-air broadcast. Are you still seeing problems?

The sync is way off this morning on Regis and on Good Things Utah. Over-the-air and Comcast both look bad. Last night's newscasts were laughable. I don't know what's going on technically, but you'd think they could have fixed it by now. This has been going on for months. No other channel has this problem. Comcast's analog channel 4 and their digital SD channel 4 are only slightly out of sync. Nobody in my family cares much about the lip sync problem, but they did burst out laughing last night when I showed them that channel 4 news was now in HD. The lip sync was funnier than Saturday Night Live.

This is odd because The View right now from the off-air feed looks fine, and I've never noticed a problem with sync. Could there be some odd interaction with your setup? I'm thinking the strange way 9.91's audio feed of KUER works with some tuners and not with others.

OTA feed here just milliseconds off sync, noticeable to me, but not likely to most viewers.
Comcast (digital) feed is off by a little but again, not likely noticeable to most.

No problem with my setup..most of the other channels are fine. The difference between shows on KTVX may have to do with where the switching is being done. If it's network through Master Control it is pretty good. If they're running through the studio switcher there may be some video delay added there. I wasn't able to check the news tonight.

There are other changes I'm seeing now also. The PSIP has changed. 4.1 is labeled "KTVX_HD" (the underscore isn't a typo), and 4.2 is showing "KTVX-SD" instead of "Untamed". The second stream was still running Untamed Sports as of just before 1AM, but is now showing infomercials. I wonder if there's a lineup change in their future.

Well I'm not sure if this is going to happen in the SLC area, but Newport (whom owns KTVX) switched thier KPGE Fresno's HD 2 to this lastweek www.parableshd.com/index.phpThey where running Untamed Sports. But why drop that? How about KTVX HD3 What about Fox 13? Are they still running HD and SD? Or did they split them yet?

Your radio bias is showing Dana. I don't think you meant HD3. As long as both 4.2 and 4.3 were SD then there's enough bandwidth to keep those and the main channel in HD. If they were really concerned about bandwidth though they could put another stream on KUCW which still only has 1. Yes, Fox13 is still running two nearly identical streams. Even stranger is that the SD 4:3 feed is on 13.1 and the HD 16:9 feed is on 13.2. Why default to the lower quality feed?

Stations used the -1 subchannel for SDTV, in order to feed analog translator stations, That way, if the box "burped", it would come back up on the first sub-channel, which was 4:3 SDTV, and not output the wrong format of video.
I wonder how many analog translators Fox feeds any more?

Your explanation makes some sense, but not entirely. I would think a professional box would be able to be locked to a specific channel regardless of whether that was a .1 or .2 or .88 or something. I do know that even on a 16:9 feed I can set my crappy consumer box to full screen 4:3 even on a 16:9 broadcast. Maybe the Foxy Ones just don't want to confuse people with change.

Looks...and sounds like the Lip Sync problem is fixed. I know it's a little thing and most people won't notice it!

The lip sync problem is back tonight and it's particularly bad. 4.1 off-air is the problem. 4.2 off-air looks fine.
