I heard that TBN has permanently shut down their analog translator station, K18FJ (channel 18) at Salt Lake City.
Anyone out there in Ogden or Vernal know if the others are still operating....K41JJ (channel 41) at Ogden, or K39AK (channel 39) at Vernal?

I thought they were going to put a digital signal on the air. I wonder what happened.

I've heard rumors that they want out of the LPTV business.
An analog LPTV can be done with an 18" dish, a DISH Network receiver, a transmitter and an antenna. That's what is on FP right now. DTV takes a lot more effort, with encoders, PSIP, etc. And, I'd figure they'd want to do multi-channel programming, too. Sounds like they may be concentrating on DTV via full-power stations only.
And, I read where some of the LPTVs are being purchased by Daystar.

I guess its not that big of a loss. If anyone wants to watch TBN all they have to do is get Comcast. I imagine they spend a lot of money on translators that hardly anyone watches. I'll have to check if the Green River TBN affiliate (K35CN) is off the air too.

Is it possible that the shutdown of the analogs is in preparation to flash cut them to digital?
As I understand the mentality of the religious broadcasters, if there's even a chance of reaching one person it's considered worthwhile. That's why they put on all of those stations that "nobody" pays attention to. I guess selling to a like-minded group would still get The Word out, so that would probably be OK.

Update on K41JJ. Per FCC records they've been silent since last July, and they have now applied to sell the station to Word of God Fellowship.

K18FJ is now back on the air at Salt Lake City. I think it happened on Friday of last week.
