I was thinking back to March 2022 when 105.5 stopped being Kool and got Bobbed. As I recall, there was almost no notice before the flip was made. Is that right? Assuming it is, how much did the lack of getting the word out to the listeners affect how poorly the 105.1 HD2 signal did in the ratings? I'm certain it had some kind of an impact, but how much I'm not sure. The demos for oldies skew older and as such those listeners are less likely to be users of new technology. The Kool Facebook page and/or website I think had the information, but unless the listeners used it (or even thought to use it) it might as well not exist.
There's a similar problem with being able to get the station where it still exists, on HD radio or a stream. Even if the listeners knew about it, they might not be able to hear it anyway, either because they don't have the equipment or the knowledge of how to use it. The branding mainly (only?) talking about the 105.5 frequency didn't help there either.
There was going to be a hit to the ratings no matter how they handled the change. What I wonder is if Broadway had just taken a week and heavily promoted where Kool was still going to be and how to get more information about the alternatives, would they be getting at least some ratings today? And on a related note, why doesn't the Kool website have (or link to) a tutorial on how to use HD Radio? They have links to both the live stream and a page (which is STILL plastered with references to 105.5) to download their app, but I don't see anything about getting 105.1 HD2. That seems at least as important as the stream/app.
