Commercial radio stations pretty much live and die by the ratings. It's not always fair and maybe not always accurate, but it's the best we can do for now. This is, however, one of those cases where I throw the ratings book out the window. KNRS is one of the top rated stations in the market. Regardless, I would flip it. I think the partisan political rhetoric they air is awful. Note that I am NOT saying that programming like that should be banned. iHeart has the right to air it if they want to. It just wouldn't be on my air. It's also important to note that I would say the same thing about similar liberal programming if there were any.
So what would I put in its place? As a companion to the KSL/KSL2 combo I talked about before I would put on a national all-news format. amanuensis mentioned CBS Radio News, AP Radio and NBC News Radio. I haven't had a chance to check those out yet, but they seem to fit the bill. Putting the BBC World Service on might be a good idea too. To keep things fresh I would look at rotating the feeds. Maybe a different source each hour? I'd have to see how that worked in practice or whether it would be too confusing.
