Wow.
After the huge numbers that FM100.3 and My 99.5 put up last month in the December report I couldn't wait to see what was in store this month. They floored me. Those numbers are beyond belief just on their own, but what makes them even more unbelievable (if that's possible) is that Christmas music was actually down year over year in many of the major markets. There's something else too. If I'm not mistaken, this ratings period was only about 2 1/2 weeks Christmas, with the other week and a half being the regular format.
If you were wondering, that was not a record for FM100.3. The record was back in 2017, but I believe they were the only station doing all Christmas that year. Adding 100.3+99.5 blew that 2017 number out of the water.
So what made Salt Lake go Christmas nuts this year? I couldn't even guess. Any ideas?
With the Christmas skew I'm not sure looking at the other stations means a whole lot. Many stations were down noticeably, which goes with the territory. There were a few interesting tidbits though. KNRS' freefall continues. The Beat actually rebounded, though it's still in the Big Trouble category. And KOOL actually showed up again.

I don't expect KOOL FM to show up in the ratings again, unless Broadway moves the format to an analog frequency that's more accessible. Even if that were to happen, I don't foresee KOOL attracting more than handful of listeners without the DJ's. I can't speak for anyone else, but the former on air personalities were the main reason I listened to KOOL. The present "automated jukebox" format is about the same thing as listening to an MP3 player on shuffle, which IMO is pretty boring.
