KSL has a new "big voice guy". Nothing else has changed as far as their sound. It just sounds like they had this guy rerecord all the things the other guy said. I wonder if this guy works cheaper or if they just wanted a change. It seems to me like a lot of unnecessary work since the other guy already recorded all that stuff. I just find it interesting that Bonneville won't pay for a new jingle package for FM 100.3, but instead, just paied a lady to sing point three over the top of the one they had, but they'll pay a brand new guy to record liners for KSL that another guy had already done.

Hope he replaced the EAS Required Monthly Test announcement. I hate when I hear the existing one, where they spell out the potential emergency scenarios, and say "Earth-Quaakkkeee".

I haven't heard that. Was he saying it trying to be funny or is it a flaw in the recording? I wonder if anyone was air checked that. When is the next one scheduled for?

The very old EAS Test announcement that has been run by KSL Radio, has a crackle at the end of the word "earthquake" It sounds like the v-o guy broke a tooth.
The next RMT is scheduled for Monday, January 9, at 10:50 AM, originating from KSL (the State Primary station).

I know that at least some jingle packages are sold on a contract basis. The station buys the rights to run them for some length of time, not a buy once and use forever deal. It's also possible that the artist who did the original VO's is no longer available and they wanted to add some new cuts but keep the voice consistent across all of them. To be honest, I doubt the average listener would even notice the voice was different.

I'm not sure if that's quite the case. KSFI commissioned TM to make the jingle package. As CA mentions, the company makes a lot of money selling re-sings to dozens of other stations. And the demo, which is brand new for 2022, only has "FM 100!" with no "point 3." tmstudios.com/jingles/fm-100-now/I'm sure KSFI have TM add the "point 3" on the version they pay for. But the demo doesn't have it, despite KSFI commissioning many jingle packages (with tacked-on "point 3"s) stretching back over a decade. ---- Stations change VO guys for a variety of reasons. Sometimes the talent raises their rates for new lines. Sometimes PDs just want a "fresh sound" (perhaps this is the first step of KSL replacing it's very old music package). The VO talent retires. Or dies. Example: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElORuYHCDGERemember this voice? Brian James did VOs for dozens of stations, including 94.9 ZHT. PD was very happy. He was part of the ZHT "sound". Unfortunately, Brian died of a heart attack at just 48. So, they had to pick a different VO. Same thing happened in Los Angeles for long-time KFI voice Chris Corley. Obviously his death meant the station had to find a new VO guy: www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7xmzZCmrtI---- No idea what happened to KSL's previous VO guy. I'd say it's either a "freshen up" or maybe aligning voices with KSL TV across brands.

Thanks! I had been wondering who it was.
Edit: I see on his web site he does work for KLOS. That's where I've heard him!
