I'm scanning through and found 99.9. I live in American Fork. It's a very clean signal. I did some googling and can only see KUAA which is an LPFM in SLC. But this is Spanish Language programming. I don't see anything about this. Anyone know? I did a quick search here too, just to see. Thanks.

Ok I heard a TOH ID and it referenced a Seattle station and mentioned Tu Familia FM.. I googled some more, but they don't appear to have a website, but they are listed on multiple streaming sites. Any more info?

730 KSVN has an FM translator on 99.9 that's licensed to North Salt Lake. I believe it has 250 watts output power, so it could be that you heard KSVN's translator.

99.9 in Utah County is the translator for KWLO. The station was bought by a Spanish-speaking Pentecostal group out of Seattle several months ago.

I completely forgot that KWLO also has an FM translator on 99.9. No worries. With three different station s all on the same frequency on the Wasatch front (and a fourth one almost got built but, thankfully, did not) it's confusing when someone mentions the frequency to know which station they are talking about. Especially when all 3 of them play a Spanish language format at least part of the time

Also, the KSVN translator (K260DC) doesn't even reach North Salt Lake. It's really west of Ogden. (Community of license for translators is even more of a fiction than for full service stations.)

I still think the super station concept would be cool. If, somehow, KUAA, KWLO's translator, and KSVN's transmitter would get together and carry the same programming on that frequency. I don't know what the laws are but if they increased their power it wouldn't matter as long as they didn't effect the reception of other 99.9 stations outside the coverage area of those three. But, I guess one-frequency super stations aren't the thing as evidenced by the Doug Barton group. (see the Goat FM thread.) You could have one reall good powerfil station on 99.9 and another one on 96.7 if somehow we could convince all these entities to get together … and then I woke up.

All three 99.9's wouldn't be a superstation anyway. Even forgetting about all the problems with KUAA being a non-commercial LPFM, the coverage of all three combined wouldn't even match the Humpy rimshots, let alone the full market Farnsworth stations. The Ogden and Provo translators are only 250 watts each and KUAA is 100 and that's as high as they can go. A full power 99.9 in Utah County won't work because of at least 100.1 KWSA. A 99.9 in Cache Valley might be possible, but that's the best you can do.

Thank you for that information. As I've told you all before, I love to follow radio as a "consumer" of it, but know nearly nothing about wattage, coverage areas, and the like.

You're welcome. I've learned a lot about the business by reading forums/discussions like this for almost 30 years. That's part of why I try to give specific facts and citations in my commentary whenever possible. Just saying something won't work gives an answer but doesn't help anyone understand and learn why. I think that's important.
