Rest In Peace, Dr. Johnny Fever

I'm posting this here because it didn't seem appropriate to post it in the "In Memoriam" section of the board. For those who haven't heard, Howard Hesseman, aka Dr. Johnny Fever on "WKRP In Cincinnati", has passed away. WKRP was one of my favorite TV shows as a teenager, and it remains a favorite of mine 40+ years later. Most people remember WKRP for the "Turkeys Away" episode, but my favorite was the two part episode "An Explosive Affair". I've included a short clip from that episode below, and those who are old enough to remember when "Ma Bell" had a monopoly on phone service in the U.S. will get the "phone cops" joke.

Those are the same two episodes I think of when I think of WKRP.

MeTV (4.2) will be doing a tribute on Sunday but the listings services haven't been updated to list what's being shown yet.

I remember that episode also! Herb got mad about the alarm bell on Les Nessman's teletype machine going off, so he unplugged the teletype to silence it. No one knew about the tornado in Cincinnati until Mr. Carlson brought the Japanese businessman into the bullpen and saw the tornado when he looked out the window.

BTW, METV has updated its schedule, and the tribute airs this Sunday from 3-4 PM. It's the two part episode with Johnny's alter ego Rip Tide. Not one of my favorite episodes, but then no one at METV asked for my opinion. 😉

A more complete WKRP tribute is airing today (Sat) on Decades (KCSG 8.2) 10AM to 10PM. "Tornado" is on at noon. No sign of "An Explosive Affair"
