Looking at My 99.5's positioning (variety from the 80s, 90s and today) seems very similar to KISN's positioning and format. Anyone recall why Clear Channel decided to move KZHT's format to this frequency and blow up KISN 97? Seems like this demo would be more valuable to advertisers, and I thought KISN was relatively successful.

KISN had a tumultuous few years before it was replaced by ZHT. As I recall it had been an AC station before going 80's while keeping the KISN 97 brand. Then it took the name Kiss, though it kept the call letters. What doomed it in the end was Clear Channel (now iHeart) selling the poorer 94.9 facility to 3 Point and needing somewhere to put ZHT.

KISN was a crappy radio station once Clear Channel baught it. When they were, "The Best of the 80's and more." They played the same songs over and over again. They did not dig deep in there music library at all. They weren't much better when they were Kiss FM either. Does anyone remember the stunt KISN used when they switched from KISN 97 to Kiss FM at the end of 2002 and the beginning of 2003? That was interesting.

Was that when a computer voice kept telling you to go to stealingradio.com? Or was that when KNRS started simulcasting on 105.7? Before it went to ZHT, I think they had a format for a while called the Patriot, where it played all patriotic songs and thing like that. Or again, I might be mixing that up with 105.7 as well. They did a similar stunt before becoming a heavy metal type ctation called Channel 1057. I don't think that lasted very long.

The promotions department over at Clear Channel/iHeart has come up with some weird stuff over the years. Remember the "KISN 97 is dead...." promotion? That was the tease. The reveal was: KISN 97 is dead....serious about paying off your something or other.

KISN was Dead serious about paying your power bill during the summer of 2001. I remember that stunt thinking there was going to be a major format change and was disappointed when tuning in for the announcement at 7:10 in April. It was on a Monday. I can't remember the date. But I do know it was in April of 2001.

You weren't the only one that was fooled, but a format change would have violated one of radio promotions rules. Namely, don't promote a brand you're about to dump.
