I was listening to Kool-FM on Friday and I'm wondering if I really heard what I think I heard. It was about 1:40 and the song was Wild Thing. It sounded like it was being played from a vinyl record complete with pops. I wasn't getting a great signal so it's very possible it was an issue with that. Playing vinyl on air seems odd. Can anyone who listens to Kool regularly tell me if they've heard that kind of thing?

I usually listen to KOOL 105.5 for at least 3-4 hours each weekday, and I don't recall ever hearing any songs played which sounded like the source material was vinyl. My understanding is that most, if not all, music played on air these days comes from audio files stored on a computer. I suppose it's possible that some of those audio files become corrupted over time from being played too many times, which might generate noise similar to the pops and clicks of vinyl. I do know that every time I've heard Stevie Wonder's "Sunshine Of My Life" on KOOL 105.5, there's a point in the recording where there's an audible "skip" or "jump" in the song. It sounds a lot like what you'd hear when playing a CD with a scratch in the playing surface, or some dust/dirt on the CD that causes the laser to jump from one segment to another.

Computer files don't become worn or corrupted from use. Even if the file was corrupted it wouldn't sound anything like that.

Looks like the link is broken. Can't get into the survey... Nope, it's just not active yet. The survey doesn't begin until Monday, Dec. 6TH. I copied this from the KOOL 105.5 website: FROM 12/6/21 THROUGH 12/20/21, A SURVEY LINK WILL BE HOSTED ON 1055KOOLFM.COM.

Ah, the fine print strikes again! But it's still not working. Wonder when that will open. I like participating in music surveys, regardless of pay or reward.

Ah, the fine print strikes again! But it's still not working. Wonder when that will open. I like participating in music surveys, regardless of pay or reward. I tagged KOOL 105.5 and Mark Waldi on their latest Facebook page post for the survey to let them know the survey link still isn't working, so hopefully they'll get it fixed soon. BTW, I heard a "Wow" song on KOOL 105.5 this morning that actually surprised me. It was "Driver's Seat" by the 1970's one hit wonder band Sniff 'n' The Tears. I remember hearing that song on KQRS-FM 92.5 at least 2 or 3 times a day during late 1978 and early 1979, but I've rarely heard it on the radio since then. IMO, it does seem like KOOL 105.5 has expanded their pop and rock song playlists recently, but they also seem to be playing less soul and Motown songs as well. EDIT: @timmy, try rebooting your PC or mobile device, then click on the link for the KOOL 105.5 survey. I restarted my Samsung mobile, and now I can access the link just fine. I also tried accessing the survey on a another cell phone after rebooting, and the link now works on my other mobile device as well.

The survey link didn't work for me until today, but it is now live, since I was able to take the survey. I was surprised by how in-depth they went. Dozens and dozens of song clips. They appear to be using a music ranking survey engine developed by Troy Research, since that is the URL that the survey used. And Broadway Media did not quite finish setting it up. The last screen asked for me to provide my name and address so that I could qualify for the drawing for "(insert prize)".
I am not sure if Broadway Media chose the song clips that I was surveyed on or if Troy Research did, but it was extensive. A much broader choice of music than what the station actually plays. Some of the songs, I was actually unfamiliar with. It was noteworthy to me, however, that only one instrumental piece was in the survey. Which indicates to me that Broadway Media has little interest in adding more instrumentals into their mix. Which is too bad.
I was also asked to rate each of the DJs and rate the overall station concept. I said that it was important that the station continue playing 60s and critical that it play 70s. As for format, I said that it was not important to me that it continue playing Soul. I just never was exposed to Soul much growing up so those songs don't have the "hooks" in my brain that a lot of their Pop and Rock and Roll does.

It sounds like 105.5 has some serious issues with their studio to transmitter link today, possibly due to our recent cold & snowy weather. I've been listening to their over the air signal this morning, and the audio is cutting in and out every 10-15 seconds. I posted a message about the audio issue on the KOOL 105.5 Facebook page, but since it's the weekend, I doubt anyone is there to read it. If anyone on the board knows how to get in touch with the engineer at Broadway Media, it would be advisable to let them know that KOOL 105.5 may have a problem with its STL.

Never mind: The problem with the over the air signal has been fixed, at least for now. Much to my surprise, I got a response from Mark Waldi about 15 minutes after I posted on the station's Facebook page.

We experienced that too on Saturday morning. So, just out of curiosity, I flipped over to U92 and the same thing was happening with them and with Bob on their HD2, although 100.7 wasn't having the problem. My wife immediately thought something was wrong with our radio but I went to some other stations that were working fine.[/p] It did seem to have been corrected by later that evening. So it was definitely a problem at Broadway that was not exclusive to Kool. The analog and the HD were effected.

Thanks for the info, oldiesfunhouse. I don't know if Broadway Media is locally owned and operated, but I have to give them credit for being so responsive to their audience. Mark Waldi in particular has always been quick to respond to my posts on the station's Facebook page. With the KOOL 105.5 music survey and responding to listener's inquiries as quickly as possible, it appears that they really value their audience's input. That's a refreshing change from the usual anonymous feel of most corporate radio stations.

I was e-mailed today and invited to another round of music survey -- this time with the prize being $500 instead of a trip to Vegas (which is a much better prize IMHO). I am not sure if this survey was customized for me but there was a lot more in it that I really liked (as opposed to just okay) -- more instrumental, for example.
