I was in Salt Lake for part of last week. I was listening to Cozy 96.7. I assume that KQMB is still the call letters. but I am confused about something. I noticed that the top of the ID hour said HD 3 I believe it was. So, what frequiency is the HD signal of cozy 96.7 on? I also heard a few translators anounced on the top of the hour ID. What frequencies are they on?

The only thing that bothers me about Cozy 96.7 is their are approximately 4 or 5 seconds between songs. The music needs to be tightened up so there isn't any gaps between the music. It would also be nice if there was some talking between the music about 5 or 6 times an hour. For example, in-between songs there could be a voice-over that says, "Utah's Cozy 96.7 the softest place on the dial." Other then that, I do like the format. They play songs I had completely forgotten about or haven't heard in a long time. It would be nice if Cozy 96.7 would have an online stream so I could listen to them here in Montana. BTW, I was in West Jordan Utah and picked up Utah's Goat on 1580. It was fuzzy. But I could get it. I didn't try to pick it up at the SLC International Airport though. Has anyone else tried to pick up AM 1580 farther in to Slat Lake? If so, how was your experience trying to do so?

Thanks for the feedback and compliment on the format. Yes, I do need to both tighten the music and add imaging. Both works in progress Regarding the HD3 channel, it's KKUT's (93.7). The 96.7 you heard was the translator. The station is also simulcast on KQMB in Levan. And yes, we do stream, if you don't mind that the website is also a work in progress (http://kosy967.com/) Sorry, we're very small and I do almost everything, so I have a list a mile long I'm working on. Regarding 1580, our coverage around the Salt Lake Valley is better in some areas than others, which makes sense as it is the edge of our signal. The farthest I've had a DXer contact me from was Wyoming, so not terribly far, but the Phoenix station pretty much blows us out anywhere beyond the local area.

What frequency is KQMB on these days? Also, Where exactly is the building where Cozy 96.7 broadcasting? Is there a way to get the station on Tune-in or some other app on a smart phone or speaker? I will check out the online stream for the station.

I listened for awhile to the stream today. There seemed to be pop and crackle at times, almost as if a physical scratched record was playing. I quit listening because the extraneous noise was irritating.

commanderlumpy, KQMB is also on 96.7 but is a Class A in Levan. That is why the translator needs to be for KKUT's HD channel, so it does not extend the contour of KQMB. Regarding TuneIn, unfortunately they have kind of shut down adding new stations and we haven't explored other apps yet.
amanuensis, thanks for the feedback on the stream. I'll look into that and see what I can do

I listened for awhile to the stream today. There seemed to be pop and crackle at times, almost as if a physical scratched record was playing. I quit listening because the extraneous noise was irritating. I'm hearing it right now on Natasha Beddingfield after the commercial break at :20 after the hour (10:20 Utah time). It sounds like it is going in a little "hot" to the streaming box so it is overloading. Frank, you have a really nice commercial voice and that message about the storage place is persuasive... better than a lot of radio ads the stations I work for are forced to run these days hoping for those remnant ad $$$.

Cozy 96.7

In regards to the noise on the Kozy 96.7 stream, I'm not hearing any crackling or popping--it sounds crystal clear at my location. It may just be that my 57 year old ears don't work as well as they used to, but the Kozy stream doesn't sound noisy to me at all. Keep in mind that I have a pretty slow (up to 3 Mbps) CenturyLink wifi connection, so perhaps the slower speed limits the fidelity of the internet stream. And FWIW, I can usually hear KWLO 1580 in NE Ogden for about 45 minutes to an hour each evening when the sun starts going down. After that, the other stations on 1580 take over the frequency. ☹

The app I use on my iPhone is ooTunes. It is a one time $5 purchase price but he always accepts new stations. Currently, Kosy is playing on the stream that says it's Utah's Goat and Utah's Goat isn't available. I'll email the developer, Steve Wooley, (who I believe lives in Utah, by the way) and ask him to correct that, meaning put the Goat back on the Goat's stream instead of Kosy and then have him add Kosy as a new stream. Commander Lumpy, if you have a Victor Reader Stream (a player designed for blind people) you'll be able to listen to Kosy on that right now. It uses ooTunes for its internet radio provider. If you search for KWLO it will come up. It will say it's Utah's Goat right now but it will actually be Kosy. I will email Steve though and have him fix it.

I forget if I mentioned this back last December but I think I know why that ooTunes is wrong. The streams for KOSY and Utah's Goat are on the same server but on different port numbers. Without getting too technical, you can think of port numbers like doors in an apartment building. You have to go through the right door to get to the apartment you want. The port/door that KOSY is on now used to be the one for Utah's Goat. UG was moved to a new port and the old port was recycled as KOSY. The website link was updated but that didn't help me because I was using a bookmark. I tried to tune in Goat but I was getting Christmas music. I'm pretty sure that was also the time when the legal ID was badly distorted so it took a while to catch on that I wasn't listening to the station I thought I was. Maybe Frank can give us a little background on how that happened. Oh, and just a note for what it's worth. The station is KOSY like the station that used to be on 106.5, not Cozy or Kozy.

Regarding the crackling on KOSY: I listened to the stream for about 45 minutes last night between about 6:45 and 7:30 and only heard the crackling on two songs. This makes me think it's not an issue in the transmission but, instead, an issue with some of the sound files. The crackling only occurred in the louder parts of the songs. Both songs had fade out endings and the crackling was gone completely as the songs faded. The second song was, I think by Debbie Gibson, with the lyrics "It must have been love but it's over now."

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Yes, it appears the crackling you were hearing was distortion. Initially I thought I just had a couple files too hot, but after backing them down they were still distorting, so it appears I must have set levels wrong when ingesting them into our automation system. I'm going through and replacing them and then it will be on to setting the segue points on the songs with the long tails. We'll get it!
