Would you agree there's been a drop in local news coverage with Jeff Caplan's show? Going back to the original topic of this thread, it seems like KSL Newsradio is putting more emphasis on talk and entertainment vs a news focused product.

I think we should frame the question as:
How has KSL managed to *stay* so news focused? It's commendable, given the industry.
Can you point to another medium-sized market (#25-50) with a news station as solid as KSL has traditionally been? Even big cities aren't what they once were. KNX is starting to sound pretty shabby under Entercom these days. And that's market #2.

KSL has announced their plans.
Old schedule ------------ 9:00-11:00 Dave & Dujanovic 11:00-Noon Inside Sources with Boyd Matheson Noon-12:30 Utah’s Noon News 12:30-3:00 Live Mic with Lee Lonsberry
New schedule ------------ 9:00-Noon Dave & Dujanovic Noon-1:00 Utah’s Noon News 1:00-3:00 Inside Sources with Boyd Matheson
This schedule makes a lot of sense to me. I like making the noon news longer. Talk is all well and good but it's important that people be informed with the facts of what is going on in the world too. It also makes sense economically for Bonneville. They get to utilize their remaining talent more and give them more of an outlet, plus they don't have to hire a replacement so it saves on salary.

I assumed that Boyd Matheson was unavailable for a longer shift because of his other job at the Deseret News. I guess since Deseret Management owns both, they can work that out.

Just an observation: I think it's ironic that Lee Lonsberry is leaving KSL to become Mike Lee's communications director, and Boyd Matheson was previously Mike Lee's chief of staff.🙂 And FWIW, Jeff Kaplan just announced the expansion of Matheson's show during the 4 o'clock hour of his Afternoon News show.
