I'm fine with stations playing SOME Christmas tunes after Thanksgiving. I just don't want them going solid Christmas until the week of. KJMY is now doing this. I heard them playing a Christmas song and assumed they had switched. But their next song was their usual.

KMGR 99.1 (also carried on 97.3 KKUT-HD3) licensed to Nephi, has been playing Christmas music for maybe a week now. It should be heard all over Utah County and points south. Does anyone in Utah County hear the 96.7 translator (K244DH) from Lake Mountain? They were off the air for a week or more but are back on playing Christmas music. The signal is definitely weaker than it was before. I've listened for hours and heard no station ID but sometimes some long silent gaps. They had been also on KKUT-HD4 but though the HD4 carrier is on, it is silent. I found it on the Web also at: 45.79.99.31:8000/;.m3u or try www.radionomy.com/en/radio/utahsgoat/index

K244DH has moved. IIRC Frank (the owner) said he wasn't happy about having to move but the rent at the old location was too much.
Terry, if what you were hearing was the same as what I heard over the weekend on the GOAT stream there was a station ID but it wasn't at the top of the hour and sounded very rushed. I did hear a mention of KKUT-HD4 and then I couldn't make out what the rest of it said though I wasn't concentrating fully on listening at the time. The ID tags on the stream are a bit of a mess too. I wonder if the problems Frank mentioned have gotten worse.

For anyone that might give a rats...KLGN Logan (1390 AM) is now a sports station also heard on 106.9 FM. It used to play adult standards and was our Christmas station. We switched it to a 70's 80's soft hits called Lite FM at 103.3 and 100.9. Its new calls are KBLQ HD 2 & HD 3. We Started Christmas music on November 2 and will go through New Years Day. We also just launched a new app. (103.3 lite fm-light blue/white/grey logo)Merry Christmas!

I have a question for cvrg (I'm assuming that stands for Cache Valley Radio Group.) Why is the Lite FM signal simulcast on KBLQ HD 2 and 3? Is that because it's feeding two different translators? I think 104 the Ranch does the same thing. The signal is simulcast on KKEX HD 2 and 3. Does that one have multiple translators as well? Just curious. Thank you.

Yes and yes. KBLQ HD's feed two different translators. KKEX HD's feed two as well, 104.5 (Cache) 104.9 (Box Elder County) ...But I'm just the Janitor

I'm a little confused. Are you saying that there is a requirement to have a different primary station for each translator?

I don't think it's a requirement, It's just how we are doing it. In other words "I think" we could have KBLQ HD2 feed a translator that played classic country The Ranch and KBLQ HD3 feed a translator that played 103.3 lite FM. Not 100% sure but I'll ask our Engineers.

OK. I've never heard of a requirement like that myself and it seemed a little weird.
To me it would make more sense not to duplicate the same program. With the limited bandwidth available I understand a station can't really get a good quality sound for a music format on 3 digital streams. My thought would be to turn off the 3rd stream and use that data to improve the HD1 & HD2 sound, but that's just me.

i'm gonna see what i can dig up but i thought the loophole only allows for 1 translator per AM station or Side channel. So would make sense for having 2 side chanels for 2 translators. This is done in other places as well. KOA in denver broadcasts via 2 translators on 94.1. One of which relays the KOA simulcast on KBCO HD3 i think it is, though it might have moved to a side chanel of KPTT. then the other Translator broadcasts via KOA. Realisticly KOA is likely feeding both translators and whichever side chanel of the sister station the 2nd translator relays, and not just feeding 1 translator while the 2nd is fed by the HD side chanel.

This isn't really a holiday flip, but KSOP-AM 1370/104.3 HD2 will be having a "Total Christmas Music Weekend" beginning at 6 PM this Friday, December 11th.
