Has anyone heard anything about a replacement tower for the one that 1010 and 1550 shared? All the FCC files show is just an STA, and it should have expired on 9-20-2020. That 48-watt non-directional just ain't cuttin' it at night. I can hear them if I aim the radio just right, but otherwise they are buried under what I guess is Calgary.

I haven't heard anything about a new tower but I'm not sure the directional 194 licensed watts were really doing 1010 many favors either. I would have thought that the 6 month silent STA would have been effective starting the day the station went silent, but it isn't. 1550's STA expired Oct 6. licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/getimportletter_exh.cgi?import_letter_id=94522I always get a chuckle out of the tower maintenance reminder at the end. Another thing to remember is that the STA filing was done by Morgan Skinner who is probably no longer associated with the station. I'm not sure how much knowledge Mr Hibbard (the court appointed receiver) has in broadcast operations. I tend to think the FCC isn't overly concerned about the renewing the STA part anyway. Not getting back on the air by next March is a bigger concern.

Since Nicholas Vicente's heirs filed Chapter 11 for AASAA Media LLC dba KMRI Radio on July 28th, I'd imagine the bankruptcy estate attorney would be responsible for filing an STA extension for KMRI. Apparently no one bid on the station's license when it went to auction on July 17th, so it's possible the court appointed receiver is out of the picture now. The bankruptcy filing record for AASAA Media shows October 9th as the date of the most recent filing, so perhaps the bankruptcy attorney has already filed an STA extension request with the FCC.
Off Topic side note: KDYL 1060 has been silent since April 23rd, and the owner still hasn't filed an STA request with the FCC. More importantly, the station's license renewal is due in September 2021. The listing for KDYL disappeared from the RadioTV Deals site around the same time that James Su sold WILD 1090 in Boston, so there's another Salt Lake AM station mystery which remains to be solved. 🙂

The problem with Vicente's heirs filing bankruptcy is that he had the company taken away from him back in March. Unless that court order was reversed they have nothing to file for.
The receiver's job is to figure out how to repay the debt the plaintiff is owed. That job isn't finished yet, even if there were no bids in the first auction. Wasn't there an offer even before the auction?

The Radio Ink article stated that the court appointed receiver already had an opening bid of $75K on the board before July 17th. However, the recently updated Wikipedia article on KMRI states there were no bids received for the license, and I haven't seen anything published in the radio trade sites to indicate otherwise. Something doesn't add up here.

What comprises KMRI now? Was there transmitter site damage beyond the one tower, with lighting and STL antenna? Is the transmitter and the two-station combiner OK? What do they have for studio facilities? Who owns that property? Could KIHU rebuild the tower (which they really need to do), and offer to lease it to anyone who wants to buy KMRI? If I was looking to buy an AM in the SLC market, I'd think that KDYL-1060 would be the better choice...needing a new transmitter, but having a good tower.

KDYL 1060 has other issues other than being off frequency, and needing a new transmitter. The site only has single phase power and needs a new electrical service put in, including step down transformer. If KMRI 1550 did go there it would be a total site rebuild minus antenna. The place needs Transmitters, Diplexer network, Tower Lighting, and equipment plus the CP's and Fiber/Microwave feeds to support it all.
Pending of course KDYL and KMRI both get sold to the right group with very deep pockets. I think KIHU is going to be stuck for the ND-2 for their night pattern.

There is, of course, the question of whether the FCC would accept that, either as an STA or a permanent change in the license. You never know with them.

KDYL's site looks pretty decent from the road (there was speculation that the small earthquake had taken down their tower). Anyone who takes over the site, or the station license, would certainly be smart to replace the transmitter. I knew they only had single-phase power to the site, but I figured they may have a converter. That big transmitter, as well as the HVAC, might need 3-phase power. A combined site certainly would.
Are the tower lights working now? Or,is the power off again? I haven't been by there since early April, when I initiated the NOTAM. They got the power back on and broadcast for a few days after that.

KDYL has been silent since late April--April 23rd, to be exact. No STA has been filed with the FCC, and KDYL is no longer listed for sale. Unless the owner has listed the station with a media broker, I have to wonder if he just walked away from it because he couldn't find a buyer. KDYL'S license is due for renewal next year, so maybe we'll get an answer in 2021.

Another question about KDYL is, where did all the studio go? Neighbors said that it was gutted around the first of February, and they thought it was "taken around the corner some place". A friend told me he heard it was "moved to somebody's house". All that's left is the satellite dishes, STL antenna, and an RPU antenna. The old van is still on the curb out front. I wonder if anyone is paying rent on that, or the transmitter site.

In the other thread David asked "So if Mr. Wood plans on rebuilding KMRI at a new site, that's going to leave KIHU 1010 with a single antenna and tower, correct?"
The answer would be, not necessarily. The two stations are independent of each other, though their fortunes are intertwined at the moment. We're told KMRI will be moving, but KIHU might decide differently. One of many problems AMs face is trying to find suitable land to build an antenna system. IIRC 630, 1510 and 910 all turned in their licenses for that reason.
