Nice job 97.9 KBZN what a steady increase over the past few books to take the lead now. Can't say to much for Capitals other station 103.1 KSQN or KLO? KSL takes a drop as KNRS takes a step above them in this book? What happened to KBER? or any of the Cumulus stations other than KUBL.

I see that KSOP-AM went up by .5 in June, which tends to prove that May's rating increase wasn't just a fluke. KKAT-AM also continued its slide into obscurity, which seems to suggest that "Utah's Big Talker" either needs to go silent or seriously consider a format change. As I recall, 860 AM did a lot better with both the True Oldies and classic country formats than they've ever done with a talk format. IMHO, the only program the station had worth listening to was Phil Hendrie, and now that Phil's program is dead on terrestrial radio it looks like KKAT-AM is on life support.

KBZN beats KSFI? About time! Now if KBZN would eliminate the occasional rap crap they'd do even better. I change the station every time the chanting comes on.
KSOP-AM and FM have been going up. The cynic in me says maybe they recently started paying for ratings.
I see KSL-AM but no KSL-FM. Other AM-FM simulcasts are listed separately, such as KZNS. Did I miss something? I'm glad to see KNRS beat KSL but I have a hard time believing that KSL dropped that precipitously.
As for 860, I've started listening to Michael Savage occasionally, so I'd hate to see them change formats. Their "imaging" is crap though. "Utah's Big Talker"? What is that? "Keep to the right"? It really sounds to me like a bunch of stupid leftists are trying to promote a rightist station and they really don't have a clue. Cumulus has many problems.

DS, the Cumulus stations have been in real trouble for a long time now. You can see the history by taking a look at previous threads with "ratings" in the title. They do need help. There are some discussions about KSQN and KLO too. The good news for Capital there is that the combined ratings of Sunny and KLO are higher than they probably would have been had they kept 103.1 and 1430 as a simulcast. It doesn't hurt that they own the now #1 station (6+ at least) which can help keep the other two stations afloat, and likely with good demos too.
As David said, KSOP(AM) was up noticeably again. It's a steady increase and not just over one or two months now. I don't listen to the station so I don't know what different they're doing over there, but whatever it is the other stations should be taking notice and notes. It's especially impressive given that it's an AM music station. Makes me wonder what it could do with an FM signal. Country Legends 107.5 did reasonably well and clearly there's something people like enough that they'll listen to music on AM.
KKAT's talk programming I think all comes from corporate parent Cumulus, so the costs are minimal. Having clearance in market 29 alone might make it worth their while to just leave it alone. Saying you have clearance in the top 30 markets is important to the marketing people. But even if you wanted to flip it, what would you flip it to? They already have a sports station. If they want to do a different music format they have several FM's that are good candidates. I think they're pretty well stuck.
Terry, 100% simulcasts are combined in the ratings if Nielsen is notified. 102.7 and 1160 are a full simulcast and are reported that way. KNRS does the same thing. Does The Zone ever split the AM and FM to cover different events? If they do, they can't combine the ratings. Those are the rules.

The Zone's AM and FM signals split quite often. And sometimes the 960 signal also splits.
For example, on the night of the NBA draft, the FM signal was providing commentary on the draft as it happened, while the AM was doing play-by-play of a Bees baseball game.
I guess if KSL can't split (and be counted as one station) that explains why they don't split when there is a live event happening (like a BYU game or a newsmaker press conference) that one signal could cover while the other signal continued with the normal morning or afternoon drive news and traffic format.

That's what I thought. The Zone's website is a bit vague on that topic.
This is a big topic of discussion in some markets. Apparently the marketing people really really want the combined ratings, and that makes sense. If you go back a few months and look at the combined ratings, having a 100% simulcast would have moved them up several places in the overall rankings. Given that they already have the number one sports station (especially during Jazz season) I don't know it matters so much.
