I think Estrella has a lot more at stake then Comcast. According to numbers I found from 2 years ago, nationally Estrella had about 3% market share. I don't know if those numbers are reliable, but I tend to believe them. This is well behind Univision, UniMas and Telemundo, the big 3 of Spanish broadcasting. I'm surprised they apparently didn't choose must carry over retransmission consent. They really don't have a lot of leverage with those numbers, and while they wouldn't get retransmission money with must carry, they would at least be on the system. It appears though that Lenard Liberman, one of the executives at Estrella was pretty ticked off at the idea of a Comcast/Time Warner Cable merger. Maybe there's politics involved?
