And it was gone again as of 8PM Sun. However, the sale was approved last Tuesday. We'll see. I also noticed that 910 was off the air again beginning this weekend and was wondering how long a station can remain off the air without FCC authority. However, I just did an AM station query for KWDZ and noticed that a remain silent & silent notification was just filed today (July 20th). The reason given for going silent is listed as "station was just acquired by licensee; it has been taken silent (until) an evaluation of of the facility is completed."

That reasoning is amusing at least. If you want the gory details on being silent, it's at www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/47/73.1740 section a4. The official FCC translation into English reads "Pursuant to Section 73.1740 of the Commission's rules, broadcast stations may remain silent for up to 10 days without Commission authority. If the station is or will be silent for up to 30 days, the Commission must be notified (by letter) that the station is silent. If the station will be or has been silent for more than 30 days, the licensee must request Special Temporary Authority (STA) to remain silent." Even if they plan on resuming shortly this would be a good move just to keep on the Funny Cookie Company's good side.
