The former KBSU (730 AM) in Boise is now a commercial station and has been assigned the KNFL call previously held by the Tremonton station on 1470. The new format is (what else?) ESPN sports radio. It was bound to happen sooner or later.

The KNFL callsign gets around more than Barney Stinson. It's been in Tremonton twice. First at 104.9 (now KNIV 104.7 Lyman) and then later at 1470. It was also in Montana and in Fillmore UT. This has all been in less than 15 years.

I realize this is slightly off topic, however . . . KNFL's former sister station KOGN needs to permanently fixed or go silent. For the second time in less than two months, KOGN has been broadcasting nothing but an open carrier with a loud hum for over a week. If the station's current owner is too cheap to put someone on the payroll to keep the station on the air, he/she might as well turn it off and save the cost of electricity for a 1,000 watt carrier. Personally, I think the fact that no one is bothering to fix KOGN's automation problem proves that no one is listening to the station, but that's beside the point. Fix it or put it out of its misery!

I think 1490 is a simulcast of 1550, isn't it? Their primary concern is probably the 1550 signal, but the 1490 would cover the Spanish speaking areas near Ogden better than 1550 would. It would also be better to sell to advertisers, having more complete metro coverage.
All that being said, they do need to pay some attention to it. If nothing else, it needs to have at a minimum a legal ID every hour. I'm guessing it doesn't. That's a problem.

Unless the automation is on a significant delay, 1490 isn't simulcasting 1550 as far as I can tell. The automation problem with 1490 was finally fixed early Monday afternoon after two plus weeks of broadcasting an open carrier with the hum. I give the station another 3-4 weeks before the regular programming returns to the open carrier and deafening hum.
